On November 18, Friday, the Virgin Islands Police Department Economic Crime Unit had arrested a man and a woman, who allegedly worked together to swindle money from the Divi Carina Bay Beach Resort & Casino on the island of St. Croix, US Virgin Islands.
The male suspect, Wayne Scott, age 49, was arrested by police in Estate Slob in the mid-island at about 12:49pm. On that same day, at about 5:48pm, they arrested the female suspect, Carissa Felix, age 27, a former dealer working at the Divi Carina Bay Casino.
In August, Economic Crime Unit (ECU) detectives launched an investigation right after receiving a report from the casino that their dealer Felix was setting up the deck of cards in the Mississippi Stud Poker game to favor the player Scott, thus purposely providing him advantageous hands.
The two suspects were charged with four counts of cheating and swindling, and another four counts of obtaining money by false pretense. The female dealer got an additional charge of soliciting or accepting tips as well.
After failing to make bail of $35k each, they were remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center pending their advise-of-rights hearing.
