Today I was trying to play some omaha, me and my oppponent shoved all in and both had J high straight, turn comes a queen and my oppponent wins, but I really can't see why it shouldn't have been a split pot. Can somebody help me?

I was holding AJ77 Opponent was holding 6J97
board was: 8 9 10 5 Q
No flush chances available.
Yep i can explain... In Omaha you have to use 2 cards from you hand. Its not like Texas Hold'en where you can use just 1 card from your hand. So you actually had a straight 78910J and they had a straight 8910JQ You used the 7J and they used the 9J I hope that is clear? Its a strange one to get used to but after a while you'll pick it up i'm sure, it one of the reasons i am getting more and more into Omaha the dynamics are great... the combinations and possibilitys are much more exciting and the stratergy is very different to NL Hold'em (what i used to play all the time) I hope with a little practice to will like it to but in the short term why dont you have a look at some basic stratergy around Omaha, it will improve you game im sure... Dont be to upset, i can honestly say I had played Omaha for over a week before i read about having to use 2 cards.....lol the sad thing is the first week was my most proffitable.

lol, dude you made me laugh now ! Its exactly the same what I thought when I first started with omaha, only I went straight to tourneys and learned it while playing against some of my buddys because few years ago in pkr.com there were about 20 players who played those tourneys.
But overall its a good game, learn it definately and it can be more profitable than hold em
