PokerStars has announced the launch of the PokerStars Womens
Poker League, a tournament series designed specifically for their female players. In the Womens
Poker League, women will be able to play against players in daily tournaments with buy-ins as low as $5.50.
The schedule includes at least two event each day one using dollars, and one using Euros. At 21:00 ET, there will be a daily tournament with a $5.50 buy-in. At 13:10 ET, there will be a similar tournament for players who play in Euros, with a buy-in of 5.50. Sundays will also feature two additional tournaments: a $55 event at 20:10 ET, and a 55 tournament starting at 12:10 ET.
During the series, players will also earn points each time they participate in a tournament. Just for playing, each player receives one point; making the money bumps the reward up to five points. Players who make the final table do even better, with the
winner taking 20 points, down to 10 points for 9th place.
These points earned in the Womens
Poker League accumulate, and allow players to win monthly and yearly prizes. Fifty players each in the dollar and Euro divisions will win cash each month, with the top point earners taking home $300 or 200. The yearly prizes are even larger; again, the top 50 players on each
leaderboard will win prize money, with the overall leaders taking home $1,500 or 1,000. In addition, the first place finishers will earn a Ladies Luxury Event Package, courtesy of PokerStars.
PokerStars has made efforts to appeal to female players, including plans to add ladies-only satellites to major events, such as EPT London. These packages would also include the chance to participate in a
poker bootcamp designed just for women, and ladies-only tournaments with large cash prize pools. Team PokerStars Pro includes several prominent female players, including Vanessa Rousso, Victoria Coren, Sandra Naujoks and Vanessa Selbst.
