Hiya,
I am a begginer to poker, playing for the last year or so, maybe once or twice per week. I would say I have a good understanding of the game, and can hold my own in cash games and tourny..
I would like some advice from some clued up players about moving up in limits/buy ins..
I win more than I lose at the moment, making a nice little profit to my bankroll regularly (nothing major), but time and time again I find myself "lucking out" against what I would consider stupid calls, or all in bluffs when I have top pair, 2 pair etc..
My question is this..
Will the play be more sensible at higher limits? e.g. players less likely to call a big bet with maybe 1 or 2 outs in the whole deck!

First of all and most important you should tell wich limits you play.
Moving from nl5 to nl10 is not the same of moving from nl50 to nl100.
One thying you can expect every level you go up you should expect to have more agressive players in the tables and people bluffing more often in position.
The only advice i can give you is that if you multi table, (per exmaple iof you play 4 tables at same) try to play 2 tables at the current limit your playing and add 2 tables of the limit next to the one your playing. First you need to adapt and try to check it out the big differences between both limits. Dont expect huge differences between nl2 to nl5 or also to nl10.

Sorry, I should of said I play the lowest tables at the moment, 0.02-0.04 and tournys with 1-4 $ buy in, I want to start playing more as I have more free time now, good advice trying some higher stakes along with my usual play, I will give it a go and see how I get on

Knowing the limit your playing the next limit in nl10 the limit i usually play. You must expect the players to be more agressive and more raises in the button. Dont try to bluff i this limit case its sensitive and you get almost everytime a guy that hitted the pair and dont lay down. Dont expect as many calling stations as in nl4 too, try to dont call much out of position, cause as i said the players are more agressive.
I hope things going well for you in the next level.

I'm amazed that anyone can steadily increase their bankroll at those kind of limits cos the play can be just so swingy, but having said that there are donks at every level and you shouldn't see a lot of difference between micro-stakes. I think it can also depend on where you're playing as the levels are different at different sites, the average buy-in for the same blind level can be different and some sites seem to attract more gamblers.
I think the best way is just trial and error, give them a go and if you find yourself losing too much go back to where you were successful. As long as you have a big enough bankroll to move up, don't be afraid to try it.

Good advice from kinogomes and awood88. Find out how may buy-ins (BI) you need in order to feel comfortable and play your natural style, increase your bankroll until you reach that number of BI at the next level, and try moving up. If it doesn't work out, drop back a level, figure out what went wrong, rebuild and try moving up again. I have seen some players who are very tight rocks move up to a decent level, not be able to advance further and be content with their earnings. The big thing is to not just be moving money from the lower level players to the higher stakes players, but actually make some coin out of this while have fun. GL!

Thanks for all the advice guys! I just got my 5000 free points for players only, Im gonna try and win a little bankroll in the tournys I can enter, If I do, I will try the higher stakes on that site, rather than risk my little bankroll I have managed to make on my other site, until I can asses how I get on..

first make sure you have a bankroll to do so. Play min of 10k hands at your current stakes. Make sure you are winning, break even at your current stakes will be a disater at the next level, the higher you play the harder the game gets. Id advisde not to multi-table when you first start, get comfy at the new limits, then when your up to it get outher tables on the go. Be ready to move down if things dont go well. Stupidity pays!!! If you dont explit this now do not move up. "Will the play be more sensible at higher limits? e.g. players less likely to call a big bet with maybe 1 or 2 outs in the whole deck!" NO, they re-raise you LOL, joke, this is a huge variable in the game, donks sit at all tables, but remember some do it for a reason outher for no reason at all. Dont play scared, give it ago when you feel ready to. Always have fun. Probably boring lame repeted advice..ah well..GL.
