i just spent a few minutes talking to the chat window at players only. Apparently those 5000 vip points aren't worth anything to them. They want a deposit, and then they will start dishing our Their version of vip points to exchange for money. I was told the ones i got from brm weren't good for exchange, but there may be fun tournies i can play in. Then i looked on this site, brm, for tournies that these points might apply to, and can't find any. Basically after doing all the stuff i was supposed to and sending in my id, i was told to make a deposit.Anyone want to clear this up for me? I'm hoping i'm just real confused, and not scammed. shinyhead.

You have not been scammed. You can not trade the points for money, but they are good for playing tourneys worth 50 $ alltogether.
I have played a few rebuys (but you can't rebuy with the points, only pay the initial fee), but I have been told there are some SnG:s to play too. I have not had the time to try them yet.
There is a thread around here somewhere in which Jessthehuman explains everything very well, and much better than me.

in sngs you can join with points you can only win points. but there are several MTT (scheduled) with guaranteed prizes , rebuy and freezout, that you can join with points but the prizes are
I joined some of these MTT, got busted...went to those sng mentioned above, won points and joined other MTTs.

Exactly as Magatt966 says.. Just be advised, you won't actually see in the lobby that you can use your points, you need to click 'register' on the MTT you wish to play - and then in the drop down menu you can choose between points on money to enter with.
As far as I can tell every single $GTD MTT can be bought into with the points - as Magatt966 says just be advised with the rebuys you cannot rebuy with points- so IMHO you're better off playing the freezeo-uts.
