There's a pair of nines on the table, which is bigger than your pair of 8's, which means you had two pairs, J's and 9's. He had Q's and 9's.

wow, we have many persons in here not getting that on holdem poker you can play the board. Three Pairs isn´t better than two.
The funny thing about the question is: The answer is right on the screen in the lower left corner....

Other player has Q's n 9's, you have J's and 9's. The 8's are no good! The pair on the board is his pair and your's. Good Luck in the future
