Bankrollmobs users guide to online poker  +1
After a recent thread about books I got to thinking that maybe we are the best people to write one.
Lets make it somewhat interactive.
I think this way we should be up to date with todays play and can slightly side steep the basic guides and add a bit of zest.
So how will this thread work? Well I have not got a clue, lets hope things just fall right, as there will be no pages, or layout we will just have to feed of each other.

**************************** START****************************

So I will start with...
The online player

Behind the screen we are able to save our embarresment of poor play, its so easy to click a button without the live pressure (live play you have to look them in the eye, pick up chips, possably speak etc etc) on-line players tend to feel more relaxed wich in turn makes them more confident and brings out poor play followed by ranting in the chat box and rigtards in forums.
No one can see that your drunk, on drugs, all hyped about flopping your flush.
Some people play poker to simply gamble, others along term investment and some just for fun, some to get rich, the list goes on and on.
The best way to deal with this flux of people is simply continue to play good poker, do not start playing like them, do not get sucked in, realise that you will be drawn on more than normal and get rivered by fools and that in the long run you will be a winner.
A commen misstake is trying to play smart against a donk, dont try and bluff them, they are happy to see a showdown, so the best thing to do is keep it cheap unless you are sitting strong, thne extract as much as you can, keep your poker-tricks for a player who has an understanding and has the ability to fold other wise you become responsible for losing that extra $ without good reason.(not losing is as good as winning)

Now we have a little understanding of why some players play like they do, have a look at the following and give feed back on what you make of the following villains moves..There are no right or wrong answers, but you will see how different people with different styles interpret your actions(that said we can go down the "commonly" route)

A quick call
A long wait followed by a raise
A Instant raise
All In on small pots
A Instant check
Unusually bets (ie 18.88 rather than 20 or 18)
A small bet

Nice thread.

A quick call - Strength or float ( re-evaluate on board on next street )
A long wait followed by a raise - Polarised, monster or light.
A Instant raise - If its not an all in it screams strength, instant AI shove could be quite wide depending on villains range/stack size.
All In on small pots - Isolation
A Instant check - Induce a bluff or air?
Unusually bets (ie 18.88 rather than 20 or 18) - Trying to play tricky Gus/durrrr poker ( although could be a good player, take time to evaluate player before deciding on this one, infact all lol )
A small bet - Value towning it up / airballing a KQ high flop etc.

turn chat off

Especially for cash games I don't recommend turning the chat off. If someone has just suffered a savage bad beat and is raging in the text box they are on full tilt (pun intended) and it is important to know this. Someone on severe tilt is going to make some very bad decisions over the next few hands, and if you are lucky enough to get something solid he will probably commit his stack again.

Like you, I also don't recommend playing poker while having sex. I think Mrs. Mahdrof would hit my in the head with a hammer if I tried that one...

Ha ha, my question is: How exactly does sex affect your performance? Maybe it could be used as a relaxation technique after tilting. sit out for a few hands, rub one out, and hit the tables in an entirely better mood. Seriously though. This is a good thread, I hope some more people lay down some insight. Thanks.

I agree with most of this.

All In on small pots:
Lots of reasons for this one IMO.

Better players:
Isolation

The usual Donk:
1. hits the board with anything, can´t play the flop, goes all in hoping to take the chips.
2. holding a typical "donk" all in hand (Ax, any pair, etc.) and hoping to either take the small pot, or get a call and coinflip like he thinks you should. (called "trapping" for that kind of player)

A instant check:
Hoping for that A or K or Q to hit.

Nice thread. We should keep this one going and keep it on topic.
Very useful B1gfoot, and very interesting. Thumbs Up

For those who pass long periods of time in front of the monitor playing, my advice is to do other things on the net while playing. Of course, this advice is only for those who only play one or two tables at the same time, playing more becomes stressing to see other things on the net. I usually play 2 tables at the same time, but i always read some news, watch some music videos, nothing that catches much my atention, but something profitable for the game because this way i will not be too much stressed about the action at the table. One should only give the exact atention the game needs to the game itself, not more or less. If we give too much atention, we tend to do errors, like thinking the oponents already know how we are playing some hands and that we can now try different robbing moves. Most of the times, it will happen the oposite. Oponents dont change the way they play and we will get caught in our own trap. If we give less atention than the game deserves, we will only play real good hands, which is easily readed by oponents. Pass through this canalizing atention to other stuff, never forgeting the game.

B1gfoot,great thread and id like to add the player that takes all their time every time to make you think, you know they are 1 multi table or 2 weak and playing you,3 got the nuts, but a sure sign they are weak is if on a certain site standing up protrays weakness, but in all you need 2 use this as a sign of weakness and watch the table before you join.poker rules... Big Smile
