Was just 9-tabling nl50, I flopped a set on 5 tables at the same time, was getting lots of action too and my foooking computer crashed (completely, blue screen and restart). I had no disconnection protection either
Have to take a break now, else I will be tilting hard..
I think I need a new CPU, when I set my computer up I think I accidentally put to much thermal grease on the CPU/Heatsink and I think maybe it is overheating. I am not sure exactly, something is up anyway, it crashes a bit. So frustrating.

Yeah, my PC also sucks, espescially when I play on a room with such bad software as Everest. On P* and earlier FTP I could multitable 10+ FR tabels and surf on the internet at the same time, now sometimes with 4 tables on Everest when I open my browser I've got timeouts on Everest and sometimes it folds my really big hands. The first thing I'll buy when I'll get more money from poker will be a new PC or notebook...

My actual PC is pretty good; 8g RAM, quad core CPU @ 3.2ghz per core. Dual 24" screens, it can handle 9 tables and web browsers etc no worries. But I think I wrecked the CPU, the actual specs are fine. I'm guessing gonna have to spend some monies now
Might try just cleaning the CPU with some alcohol and then applying just a tiny amount of the grease and putting it back in, but it was a long time ago that I think I destroyed it.. So it probably won't do much now, if it's already burnt out.

Man that sucks. 1 time I was playing 5 SNGS on FT, all on or near the bubble and my internet went out. Sucked so bad.
Since you said you put your pc together, I'll assume you're pretty techy. Whatyever you do though, do NOT use rubbing alcohol on ANY part of your pc. Just trust me on this.
What you wanna do is take a soft dry clothe like a tea towel or face clothe and gently wipe the thermal grease off. Q-Tips work great for it as well, again just make sure they are dry and they dont leave any fuzz behind.
Don't smear paste all over the CPU, there should be a little metal bump that portrudes slightly on the top, just 1 good little dab on that and then apply the heatsink and you should be fine. Another thing you might wanna check is to make sure the heatsink fan is clean and spinning right.
While you have the pc open, give all the ram modules a good firm push to make sure they are seated. Over time ram can creep out slightly and cause issues. Also give all HD/Optical drives/peripheral cards like sound card etc a good push as well.
If the issue continues, you might want to consider look at the software side of things. Things like software installs, updates and even new drivers can cause issues in windows. If all else fails, backup, format and re-install.
If you're still having issues after all that, chuck the f***ing piece of s**t out the window and buy a new pc

I'm 99.9% sure it isn't software, I've done a clean install of windows since the problem started occurring (going back a few months actually). And this didn't help.
I thought it could have been drivers - since it seems to happen if I have for example P.K.R open and then also a movie playing on the other screen and I thought maybe audio or video driver problem, but I've tried formatting and re installing and then updating to all the latest drivers, even tried some other 3rd party drivers for the audio/video.
From my experience with PCs over the years (been building them since I was 13) I'm fairly certain it's a hardware issue, it certainly has all the symptons..
I actually used rubbing alcohol on the CPU ages ago, to get rid of the original thermal grease, before attaching a new heatsink, I was told by a few people this was OK
I can't find my thermal grease at the moment, might have to get some more, but when I do I will try removing it again and just adding a fraction of the amount this time.. See if that helps, will try what you said with the RAM also. All the fans are spinning OK as I can see them because my case is always open, because the CPU alarm tends to go off otherwise.. Which is another reason I am fairly certain I have CPU problems lol.

Mmm, yeah, rubbing alcohol is a big no-no. Generally any sort of liquids on any part of a pc is never a good idea. It corrodes the metal over time.
Dying fans are usually easy to find, they almost always make a horrible noise when there's a bearing shot in them or they are off center lol.
Yeah, if you can't keep your case closed without the alarm going off, it's definately an issue. Too much thermal paste is bad because it's counter productive, it doesn't dissipate the heat to the sink properly. When you apply it, use a tooth pick to spread it across the surface i mentioned in my last post.
What's your CPU temp running at? I'm assuming it's intel.

With the rubbing alcohol, I did completely dry the cpu before applying the thermal paste. So that shouldn't be an issue.
Haven't checked the temp recently, it's an AMD chip actually, don't like intel lol. Last time I checked it was around 80C
And yes, too much thermal paste is counter-productive which is why I am pretty sure that is the problem.

Yikes, 80C is WAYYYYYYYYY too hot.

Very unlucky there Jess, definitely gotta watch for tilt. These days if I feel tilty I test myself out at microstakes SNG to make sure I don't blow it: if I can't control tilt at those money levels then I need to do something else.
That’s one thing live poker has over online: no equipment malfunctions! A couple of years ago when 888 was having major problems with their software disconnecting in the middle of hands (for which they always placed the blame on the user’s internet connection or computer, until they lost most of their mid to high stakes players), I was sitting on the button at NL1000 with AK, bad player in mid position raises and I reraise to which he called, flop comes down rainbow with a K and garbage, he checks, I bet, by now there is around $200 already in the pot and …. Disconnect! Aaaaarrrrggghhhh!

I had the same problem with my PC last month. Was in a finaltable and suddenly he crashed. The CPU was all the time by 100%. The guys on the FT got the half of my chips while i tryed to start my pc. Not bad for me, it was only a freeroll. Btw i found the problem. The fan was dirty. I cleaned it with alcohol and my pc was/is faster than ever before.

bad luck there. I know the feeling. While my laptop doesnt have hardware issues if you overload it with software it will stuck and crash eventually no matter what. So in order to avoid that crap especially when im playing i do often a clean windows install It pisses me off every time cause of the updates and stuff but cant do much. Im waiting for a new laptop from Acer to be available here like two months now. It seems to me the moment they will bring it here it will be old already lol

Try turning down video settings for a short fix, I know your up on your PC stuff, but are you overclocking? If unsure try Sisoft Sandra, and if you are lucky it could be a dodgy power supply. But as I think you know, chances are its your CPU due to over pasting, I keept getting the blue screen on anther comp I have, (after swapping stuff about and cleaning) turned out that the CPU just was not fully inserted, you never know could be that too. Either way CPUs are not that expensive, I need a whole new PC, I say need, more like want.

This is true; the problem is though if I were going to buy a new CPU then I'd get a later model, which used a different mobo socket and of course would then need fancier RAM to match.. Haha, so IMO it's always a 3-way combo; board, cpu & RAM.
I might later pull every thing out of the case, clean it all, clean the fans, etc, see if that helps.

thats sick man, funy when i played on PKR my connection would always f**k up when i had a str8 or some monster hand used to drive me crazy it was always when i had a monster or it seemed that way anyway.
on the bright side you can use your poker money for your computer and you have something you can spend it on

Well if you wanna stick to AMD and you have an AM2 board, you CAN get away with upgrading to an AM3 processor and keeping your old board/ram. But since you're an MTT beast, might as well cough up the extra hundo or so and go all out lol.

Yeah - you're right on it being backwards compatible and spot on regarding currently having AM2, I just don't see the point of having a new CPU if I am bottlenecking it with older RAM/Board. Seems like a wasted investment.. I think it's worth it to spend a bit more and actually get the most out of a new CPU...
