As for MTTs,it always depends on your average buy in,not the buy in of the tourney you actually registered for. It also depends on the field size of course.
If you're playing scheduled micro/lowstakes MTTs on stars I'd say the absolute minimum is having 200 average buy ins, going by the schedule you're usually playing. The more the better but anything less than 200 average buy ins will kill you sooner or later. I'm 450 buy ins away from my "career" peak (MTTs only) so you see losing 200 average buy ins in those is definitely normal. There are MTT-only pros that have even a losing YEAR for a reason
Everyone recommending less than 100 buy ins has absolutely no idea of the variance involved btw,so if any site is recommending it,dont use their strategy articles, every player who is serious about bankrollmanagement will tell you at least 200 (average) buy ins. Ideally it'd be at least 300 or even more, but just personal preference
To show MTT variance I'll upload my MTT-only graph, average buy in is $4 (again, this is MTTs-only,I'm playing the huge majority of my volume @ SNGs but I do surely know MTTs as well )

For so many reasons i fully prescribe to the 300 buyin level. For instance i really like playing the $3.30 $750 guaranteed but ive found i become too invested in the game and end up nitting up and putting myself out of contention around crunch time. Alternatively when i play either the $1.10 or lower non rebuy games i enjoy being able to play a style more natural to me not worried about the BR hit.
Now the reason i fully agree with you is because by your theory i shouldnt be playing anything higher then .50 cent games. Which is a level not only i can afford but the competition is way less difficult and regardless of outcome i am not killing my stack.
I have totally commited to playing poker the best i can. It would be foolish to hope for a hit in a game above my br when my best chances lie in honing my game in low stakes and learning how to make those tough folds.
im rambling man but i do appreciate the advice and take it greatfully! positive reinforcement towards the right action is always awesome! Yeah i was looking over my stats and realized i gotta stop with those $3.30 games. its sucking up some major buyins for my regular games increasing my risk.
compared to yours my graph is shameful but i posted it for reference. Damn u have some steep cliffs you climbed! awesome!!!! we all know your due for a big one man!

Thanks for bumping that question MicroMachina, I'm definitely interested in rebuy tournaments now. I've never gotten around to researching the strategy and I avoid games that I don't understand. Thanks for all the responces guys I'm going to look into this more now.

One you choose your kind of bankroll management for MMTs 'standard' (ej 200$ and 1/200 BM for MTTs = 1$). You can spend in a rebuy tournament maximun x1.5 that amount (for spend i understand buyin+rebuys+addon).
Yes, i like very conservative BM.
200 buy ins is still not very conservative...I mean,I use much more than that for 180 SNGs For topic - investing 5% of your roll at once is pure suicide for your BR,especially for an MTT. I wouldnt even think of touching $1 rebuys before at least $500 BR (calculating with a standard 5rebuys + addon strat). Obv. it's your decision but really if you wanna play MTTs,or even SNGs,a 5% rule is pure suicide
0.5% of your bank in MTTs and 0.75% in Rebuys MTTs don´t seems yo you a very very conservative BRM?!

I'd treat 180s like MTTs. I'd say conservative BRM for 180s/MTTs is having 400ABI (average Buy ins),but thats just personal preference. But yeah 200 should be pretty much the minimum you should have, the more the better. Everyone who tells you you could play with less hasnt expirienced real swings yet
