Don't mean to sound ignorant here, but I really don't understand what Rake means. Could the Mobsters explain this to me or give some direction as to where I could read about Rake Bonuses, No Deposit Bonus, etc. I've been playing for about one year and there's so much terminology I don't thoroughly understand. Thanks and Good Luck to All!

Thanks a lot SuperNoo! This is an excellent piece of information and a big credit to the author, Mr. doz01. Clears up a lot and it's now part of my poker folder. Mobsters are Great!

Here's a thread I did a while back on the subject.. It's not an explanation of rake - rather a discussion on the idea of Gross (before rake) profit/loss and Net (after rake profit/loss) and just how significant this is. Also touching on the importance of reload bonuses, promos and rakeback

Hi. So, rake is the amount of money that the online poker room wins at a tourney or a table. In a tourney, the rake is the separate amount you pay to register (i.e. a $5+$0.50 buy-in tourney, in which the $0.50 is the profit from you directly to the company). In a ring table, the rake is generated according to the amount of money that is bet in each hand. The higher the bets, the bigger the rake. And there’s other thing I believe you want to know, which is rakeback. Rakeback is the amount of rake that a player can recover from a poker site just for playing there. The company defines a certain % of the money that a player puts on the tables to give it back again to the player, either he had won or lost when he bet that money.
