American won $315 million - his life turned into a huge tragedy

Tags: Jack Whittaker, Powerball multi-state lotter.
Posted on 16 July 2009 by "T".

Jack Whittaker, 62, had everything and was really happy with his life until 7 years ago, when he won the biggest lottery win ever (at that time), $315 million. After the win he's life took a big turn and became a huge tragedy as family members died and his wife left him.

Around Christmas seven years ago, Jack Whittaker became a local celeb when he won $315 million in the Powerball multi-state lottery. At the time it was the largest jackpot ever won by a single winning ticket in the history of American lottery. What one should know about Jack Whittaker is that he at this time already was a multi-millionaire from his own business and that he had everything under control in his life. After the win he gave a lot of money to charity, built parks for children to play at, lend out money to friends and gave the women who sold him the lottery ticket a $123,000 house, a new jeep and $44,000 in cash. Not a bad start with other words for the multi-millionaire. But the big win became too much after a while for Jack Whittaker as he started going to porn/strip clubs and also started getting problems with alcohol and gambling. But that wasn't enough punishment for him as people stole hundreds of thousands in cash after breaking into his car and house.

But the tragedy doesn't end here..
After all that happened to him, some of his family members started taking drugs and 1 of them died in 2003 and another one in 2004. After that, his wife left him, and in the beginning of this month he's daughter was found dead in her house. The police are still investigating the cause of her death.

In a recent interview Jack Whittaker said, -"There are no limits how life can punish you. I wish that I never would have bought the lottery ticket that gave me the $315 million win"

In Hollland, you dont get the money, they give you each year something, because they know money can make people crazy..
But dont talk bad about the men, he did good things for charity and children...

Ok, let's get some things settled. First of all, if you win 315 million $ and your life turns to shit, it's ENTIRELY your fault. I don't seem to recall any such story about Bill Gates or Steven Spielberg. And they have in excess of 3 billion $. There are many such examples. Also, you can use your money to gamble if that's your thing, as long as you keep one foot in the real world. His family turned to drugs? Well, that's what happens to biggots/morons who, instead of staying in school and maybe reading Leo Tolstoy and Nabokov and others who wrote stories much like this one, instead of doing that, they go crazy.
Education is underrated. Money is however, overrated, i will conceed to that principle. But still, let us not shed tears for a man who had it all, but chose to throw it away. There are millions of people who never get the chance to even see a TV or a computer. To be born with HIV in primitive Africa, that's a sad story. To have 315 million $ ruin your life, that's flat out idiotic whichever way you put it.

P.S. Please excuse my grammar. I'm not an anglophone and as such my spelling oftan lacks in precision.

hmmm 315 millions ,,, this is too much for a single person.
i do not understand why he played in the lottery when he was already multi-milllionaire??? maybe he liked gambling =)
i think the big win has nothink to do with the 3 dead family members.
they took drugs and weren't killed because of wanting money from Jack Wittaker

My 2 quotes I use when it comes to money:

"Money doesn't buy happiness, but it sure helps"

"Id rather be miserable and rich than miserable and broke"
 ih8usukouts23/07/2009 09:49:59 GMT
Bring on the money...lol. I have had my share of slip ups in life so I think I would be more responsible now that I am out of that stage . You wouldn't see me in the strip clubs anymore or partying it up like I used to do. Live and learn I guess
 KingEraiser24/07/2009 16:04:11 GMT
very hard story...but i think money isnt only the reason for this tragedy
 GeneYuss25/07/2009 22:59:05 GMT
Sad story, especially death of his daughter...He needs to hire a life coach or something...
 ximx30/07/2009 23:10:21 GMT
When we don't have money we want them, when we get big money we won't them...

Two weeks ago in Italy has expired the terms to claim prizes of national lottery...
no one claimed, between others minor prizes, the first one amounting in 5 millions euro......

..... maybe the owner is a lucky person....

or maybe if he will find the ticket his life will turn to tragedy the same.
 MuradMurad10/08/2009 00:35:28 GMT

 Phospate2210/08/2009 06:06:35 GMT
315 mil $ omg, no wonder he and his family got spoilt. this shows that money isn't everything.
it only takes a moment for everything to turn around and turn your life upside down.
So he was dumb he should give that money to me, because i can hande it very well Big Smile
 karstenkloss10/08/2009 12:02:25 GMT
i would not have any problem with that money. Share the money with your 10 best friends, buy a nice house at the seaside and play Poker. No disturbing work anymore, only champaign, oysters and....... Cool
 Ragasha10/08/2009 12:14:20 GMT
