José Mecedo - the man who turned €30 into 2 million dollars

There has been lots of talk about José "Girah" Macedo, from Portugal, lately. According to different rumors, José had got special coaching from Dan "Jungleman12" cates, 2010's biggest winner online, and turned a €30 bankroll into $2 million dollars. However, many didn't believe that the story was real until a while ago when José was interviewed by a poker magazine and told the story himself.

"I started playing poker when I was 16, or actually it was even earlier but then for play money on Facebook. Back then I believed that poker was all about luck. But I changed my mind after I had read about Tom "durrrr" Dwan and how he as a poor student won $5 million dollars thanks to his intelligence and hard work. I wanted to do the same and I started to read lots of poker books. I went to different book stores and read Dan Harrington and David Sklansky. I had to change seat all the time so they wouldn't recognize me in the store. Sometimes I even read in the bathroom.

Had to lie to his mother
After some time I felt ready to play for real money, so I asked my mom for a €30 loan for a video game that all my friends had. It took her a whole month before she saw on the credit card receipt that I had used the money for poker. She was really angry, but after a month I had already won 2,500 Euro."

Since then José Macedo has worked himself up from the lowest levels to a bankroll of around 2 million dollars.

Good news from my country.
That's a huge acomplishment, but to get there a player needs a heater as much as good poker skills.

This guy decided to stop playing fun poker and passed three years reading lots of poker books, actually he wasn't just reading them, he was studying, dedicating his time to them like a student does with Maths, History, Biology, whatever. Studying before practicing, decorating parts of the theory and applying all his effort in real money game after that. It worked! It was just like making a graduation program for your own risk. He only had to pay for some books, others he got them on the net, and than work, read, study, understand all the meaning of it in order to do money with it! Very nice! Why do we study? To get a job to get money! So, you decide what you study and where do you want to take your money from! Congrats Zé!!!

DO you really believe what you are saying here? for real.
Cause if someone spent 3 years reading poker books he is just wasted 3 years of his life.
And to be honest its silly comparing poker with maths and biology.
Poker is not rocket science.
And if you believe that someone could accomplish what he did by reading few poker books then
everyone would be a millionaire, everyone would quit his job and doing that for a living.
But this isnt happening, and i think you know why.

Cause simply not anyone can be a winner, and it has nothing to do if you read the books or not

Nice story, only thing I'm missing are the elfs and the gnomes.

Fairytale story. this is for the poor people to play and loose there money to the riged online poker. they lure people to this mirage and hope they will be someday the same succesful player like this one. pfff. This is just for the one they are so naive to think they can win online like this player here. Im not a regular online player but when i make a diference from online an live game the diference is huge. I know that i will have comments like "online you play more hands and so on and so on but if you want to sea the real online poker watch MAGIC612 chanell on youtube and you will sea what im talking about
 Delrix25/03/2011 07:41:07 GMT
Is it legal to play for money online in age of 16?

Not if I care...
