The French Team PokerStars member Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier won the $10k Seven Card Stud Championship yesterday and got his first WSOP bracelet and $331,639 in prize money. But that's not all. ElkY became the third French WSOP Champ in history and the 4th poker player ever to complete poker's triple crown (WPT title, EPT title and WSOP bracelet). The 3 other players who have accomplished the triple crown are Roland de Wolfe, Gavin Griffin and Jake Cody, who also completed the triple crown at the 2011 WSOP.
About ElkY
Bertrand Grospellier was born on February 8, 1981 in Melun, France. He was already an online gaming star before he became a poker player. After moving to Korea in 2011, ElkY was a regular face at the World Cyber Games and in the Korean Pro Gaming League. His best game was Starcraft, a game in which he's still one of the top ranking players.
When a friend introduced him to poker, he quickly realized many of the skills he had picked up in the pro gaming. It didn't take long before he started to win money on regular basis. Since then, ElkY has become one of PokerStars highest earners, and was the first player ever to reach Supernova Elite level in the PokerStars VIP club. However, it's not only from online poker that he has won big. ElkY's first big tournament cash came back in 2007, when he placed 2nd in EPT Copenhagen for $399,953.
Later that year, he made his first WSOP final table, finishing 9th in the $2,500 NLH event for $29,124. His first tournament win came the year after when he beat a field of 1,013 players in the 2008 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure for a massive $2 million. His hot streak continued in October that year with a WPT Festa al Lago $15k event win worth $1,411,015. Now, 3 years later, he has completed poker's triple crown thanks to the win of the Seven Card Stud Championship event at the 2011 WSOP.
