PokerStars ANZPT Perth

After a few months break, season 5 of PokerStars Australia New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT) kicked of yesterday. The first day of the ANZPT Perth Main Event saw 67 players. In the end of the day - there were 38 players left, with Peter Woodworth (picture) holding the chip lead (84,025). Day 1B is running at the moment and, according to the latest reports, 139 of 151 players have chips left.

More than double the number of players that went to day 1B comparing to the affluence at day 1A, I can never understand the logic of this: does players think pros will be at the first start and so, to try to run away from bigger competition, opt to enter on the second start of the event, or is it some other reason. Like schedule complications or something? If it was because of the price of the buy-in, neither day 1A or 1B would have much crowd, but in this case day 1B has got a lot more than day 1A.

I've played in a couple of wsop circuit events, & it really depends on which day has the most entrants. I think some people try to hold out & avoid a larger feild. Which would not have been the case for them in this tourney clearly. Some probably sattellite in, in between day 1 & 2 as well.
