The World Poker Tour is underway in the United Kingdom, and the first day of the £5,250 High Roller is already in the books! After nine levels of play on Monday, 23 players of 29 entrants were still alive and kicking, including Sam Trickett (56,000), Adrian Mateos (48,500), and Tom Hall (45,700).

Steven Warburton will bring the heaviest bag of chips to the second day of play, which begins today at 1 p.m. local time. Warburton, who recently finished runner-up to John Juanda in the EPT Barcelona Main Event, has 149,000 in chips and is closely followed by Simon Deadman with 148,100.

Check back tomorrow morning for another update.

wait a sec... 29 dudes only? with 5k buyin that means prizepool is only ~150K if my second grade math skills are correct. kinda off the pace a bit, we're used to seeing millions being splashed left and right and now suddenly this 150k event... probably they should have renamed it to super high roller instead of pesky high roller to get more attention...

Mr pochui the WPT is not that popular when it happens outside US plus that event is not the main event so it's reasonable to see few attracted poker players...

I started reading about Tricket's chips and i thought "this seems to be running tight, with similar amounts of stack", and only after i realized the chipleader has almost three times more chips than Tricket.

For a WPT high roller event isn't only 29 players somewhat lower than it should be?Or is there an extra day to register as some of them are? With still 23 left there are still plenty of play left in it and Sam Trickett has plenty of chips.

So winner gets like 50k? lol

World series of poker (WSOP) high rollers are the ones with high buy-ins and huge prizepools. World Poker Tour (WPT) usually has smaller fields and smaller buy-ins. As you can see they consider 5k buy-in a high roller. I don't disagree with them about 5k being a high roller though, but it's just that we're used to seeing much bigger prizepools/fields Blink But I'm sure some pros enjoy small field MTTs, they're fun too and usually easier to cash.
