The first day of the EPT Malta €10,300 High Roller drew a massive field of 228 unique players who made a total of 61 re-entries. This means that 289 entries have been made so far, plus registration is open till 11:45 a.m. today. The current prize pool is over €2.8 million - just €1.5 million less than the Main Event (895 entries).

As you probably already figured out, many of poker's best tournament players participated. Some of the biggest names to make it through Day 1 with plenty of chips include Max Silver (277k) Mike McDonald (228k), Steve O'Dwyer (218k), Michael Tureniec (160k) and Team PokerStars Pro Geoge Danzer (152k).

10 levels of play were completed on the first day and Rui Ferrera from Portugal bagged up the chip lead (280k) amongst the 152 survivors. The plan for day 2 is to play another 10 levels, or until a final table of eight. Check back tomorrow for another update.

Portuguese player at the top? My "neighbours" are getting better and better. I should start thinking about doing something for my skills. As a rookie my first thought is: if i played higher values perhaps i could reach higher victories. But that shouldn't be the only difference in the game, right?

Some of the biggest names who were make it through day one I know absolutely nothing of or heard literally zero thing about in my life, but good to know that two hundred people is now considered a massive field when it comes to live tournaments.
