Here's something to look forward to. Last week a trailer for the upcoming movie Mississippi Grind (involving high-stakes tournament poker) was uploaded to youtube.
The movie, which was shown for the first time at the Sundance Film Festival in January, is about a gambler, Gerry (Ben Mendelsohn), on a losing streak who teams up with a younger charismatic poker player, Curtis (Ryan Reynolds), in an attempt change his luck. The two hit the road together and travel from town to town, casino to casino with the vision of winning back what has been lost.
I have to agree with others and have found that films about Poker are great for film fans but anyone who has played Poker will often be very disappointed. The recent runner runner film was terrible and I regretted watching Rounders for the second time.
This trailer is very well done, it really gives me the will to go watch this movie, there's just one point in the trailer that let me in suspense: that look in the guy that rolls the dices (2:24) and when he closes his mouth... if he had won he would be opening his mouth, but it was already opened. closing may be the result of desper for not winning... or any other feeling! I've got to go watch it!
So, they made a remake from the California Split but they put the story in another town plus forgot to credit the original creators so now they don't need to pay for the rights, copyrights and nobody mentions to them they stoled the whole thing. Nice.
