Yet another 1,000 players-plus event of the 2016 WSOP concluded on Tuesday with James Moore taking down the $1,000 buy-in Super Seniors Championship.The 65-year-old Physician-Radiologist from New Hope, Pennsylvania, collected $230,626 in prize money (the biggest cash of his career) and his very first bracelet.
"This is an unbelievable thrill for me," Moore told wsop.com afterward, visibly and emotionally moved by his feat. "I had absolutely no expectations. It's every poker player's dream - and mine just came true."
The Super Seniors Championship, which is open to players 65-plus, was introduced at last summer's WSOP and was won by 70-year-old Jon Andlovec, who bested a field of 1,533 entries to lay hands on his first bracelet and $324,703 in first-place money. This year's event 1,476 entries who battled it out over three days.
"I was feeling really good about this tournament and my chances entering Day Three,"Moore told WSOP.com when asked about his journey to victory. "I had lost a lot of my stack on Day Two. But today I felt good. Things seemed to work better for me. It wasn't a cake walk. But things worked out."
Moore on the experience of playing in a tournament only open to elder players, "There's no question this is a terrific experience for those who play in it. The men and women are just so kind. It's not just a poker experience. It's a social experience beyond compare."
