The $1,100 buy-in partypoker Million Sochi Main Event drew a field of 1,170 players. The first two days were played online at partypoker on March 12 and 19 and the remaining days were played March 23-25 at the recently opened Sochi Casino and Resort.
Ukraine's Dmitry Chop entered the final day of play in the chip lead with only 10 players remaining. Chop extended his lead further and made it to the 8-handed final table as the only non-Russian player. He then progressed to heads-up against Lev Mnatskanyan. Mnatskanyan had a small chip lead when the battle started, however, Chop overtook the lead and emerged victorious within just a couple of hands.
In the final hand, Mnatskanyan raised to 3.2 million with AA and Chop called with Q10. The flop rolled out K1010 and Mnatskanyan bet 10 million, Chop responded by going all in and Mnatskanyan called. Over 100 million chips were in the middle of the table when the dealer put out the last two cards: 9 and 3. Chop scooped the pot and Lev Mnatskanyan was eliminated in second place for $150,000. Chop received the trophy and $225,000 in prize money! It was his biggest live cash to date and he's now only $39k short of making the $1 million milestone!
