Outlasting a player field of 518, derivatives trader Jeremy Wien has taken the top prize money worth $537,710 and his very first gold bracelet in this year's WSOP Event #20: Big Blind Antes $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em event.
It was mostly Laka who was in the chip lead throughout the final day of play, sending other fellow final tablists David Peters, Shawn Buchanan, Jake Schindler, and Eric Blair to the rail.
Right into heads-up play, Laka had a 4-to-1 chip advantage. Wien managed to hold on, eventually taking the lead after he won an all-in with his A-9 against Laka's 10-10. The final two players battled for more than 3 hours, and when the final hand was in motion their stacks were fairly even. In the end, Laka had pair Queen versus Wien's pair Ace. The board ran out J-8-2-3-6, thus making Wien the ultimate winner for this event.
The part-time poker player from Mt. Kisco, New York said after he won, "It's pretty surreal. It's not what I do for a living, but I come out here for a few tournaments every summer, sometimes as many as 15 or so. You know, I got close to a final table once a few years ago, I've had a few cashes, but other than that, nothing crazy. I never actually expected it to happen, even though I've dreamed about it. I've given my bracelet ceremony speech a few times in my head."
