Battle of Malta Main Event has now concluded, and 25-year-old Serghei Lisii from Moldova was the top winner, who took home the trophy and the cash prize worth €247,167.

Battle of Malta 2019

  • Schedule: October 15 to 22, 2019
  • Venue: InterContinental Hotel, St Julian's, Malta
  • €1,000,000 GTD Main Event

For the 8th year since its inception, Battle of Malta broke records once again, with 4,657 entries and a colossal prize pool of €2,258,645. The tournament venue was packed throughout the week-long festival that hosted a total of 35 events with over 13,000 tournament players who attended.

An extra day was actually added to the €1M guarantee Main Event.

Dutch player Steven van Zadelhoff and Serghei Lisii struck a heads-up deal to secure €217,167 each, which left the trophy and €30,000 on the line.

BOM 2019 was Lisii's first-ever visit to Malta after qualifying online with 32Red. This win is more than four times his live tournament winnings by far. His previous best live result was finishing 7th in the WSOPE Little One for One Drop in Rozvadov for €20,710 two years ago.

BOM Event Director Diane Fenech said, "We'd like to thank absolutely everyone who helped make Battle of Malta 2019 such an incredible success - all our players, their guests, the tournament, casino and hotel staff, our many sponsors and all the media. The numbers were simply staggering this year - not just in the Main Event which had 4,657 entries, 841 more than last year - but also in all the side events. Congratulations to our champion Serghei Lisii and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year. Do come join us in 2020 and let's break records yet again!"

this is great payout for this tournament and especially when we know that they didnt have such a big buy in as some other main event have!ofcourse its not easy to beat this number of players, but on end its sweet when you are on top!they made deal before heads up,but still nice payout for first player!

An online qualification for the Malta tournament through 32 Red, made this player win a very impressive amount of money. How nice it is to earn so much money with only a few dollars because of qualifying tournaments. Is very beautiful and next time he may be a BRM member who will win a good sum.

Wonder what the chipcount was on both sides when they decided to struck a deal, these high profile live tournaments almost always end up with a heads-up deal in one way or another, most likely the people playing in the finals just happy to be there in the first place so any money is good money for them.

I didn't watch the moment when they made that deal and how many chips each player had, but there is a video where you can see this. In my opinion the difference was not so great, because nobody accepts a dea,l when he has more chips than his opponent. https://battleofmalta.com/videos/

Designed for low- to mid-stakes poker players, Battle of Malta has grown since its launch in 2012 and is now one of the most popular stand-alone events in Europe. Battle of Malta won the 2014 European Poker Awards “Event of the Year” title in the category for buy-ins up to €2,000.
