I'm a new player and you nailed me on several items. Playing the same, patience, I don't bluff, maybe I should once in a while. I'm a chicken and usually never raise unless I have the nutz. This was very helpful information and made me think as I read each catagory. I did have beginners luck and now I've stablized to losing a lot. Will continue to read, watch andf listen to the experienced.

Many beginners think every hand is 50/50, and they dont notice players table images and call tight/aggresive players raise preflop with bad hands. And they just cant fold after flop if they hit a pair or a draw when the tight player showe. If you really care about winning, dont watch tv or play farmville between your hands. This will give you a much better chance of knowing who you should fold to and who you can call.
Edit: Actually, just watch tv, i will have a better shot to win then

Noobs also tend to believe that their top pair is best. If they have top pair they will call no matter what. That's why I hate playing against noobs because they hold on to their hands so it's impossible to bluff. If the cards are 5, 5, 9, J, Q and they have Q7 they won't let go of it.

Queen Jack offsuit is not a great hand. I see this all the time and can remember when in my early days of playing I thought any two face cards were good.
In most situations you should fold them to big or early position bets.
Also just checking the flop is bad strategy. Maybe you will hit that 2 pair, but most likely you'll end up folding, or trying to play a middle pair or top pair with a terrible kicker.

Some great advice out there. I recognize myself in making some of the mistakes listed above, but I`m learning, and getting past them. There`s a saying. You learn while you live.

etna your exactly right. most beginners think they have a 50/50 shot. I love watching the mistakes people make because they freak out thinking they have to protect their blinds at 10/20 haha. But I also see a ton of beginners luck. does anyone in here make good at playing micro mtts/ sit n gos?
I can still make most of those mistakes now and o have been playing for 5 years lol. probably why i am a losing player. Hopefully reading up on will improve my game.

Not understanding which hands are statistically better. Download PokerStove if only to use the %slider to figure whether K9 is better than QT, for example. Play non-turbo micro SNG's - they are cheap and last long enough for patience to pay.

Most the beginning mistakes people does it all time over and over time after time. Because most of time its hard to control your emotions than do things that makes sense. We all know what happens when we get too emotional with the game hahahaahahaha.

Really good point kinogomes, i really think thats it's very important to have a good control over your emotions at the poker table, live but also online. I also so many poker interviews with the biggest poker pros like ChrisFerguson, Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu, they all said that after you master the game pretty good, most of them want to concentrate on the mind part of the game. An important component of this is to control your emotions, once you lost control over your emotions you are going to enter on tilt and start losing more and more money. It's a lesson that the younger poker player didn't learned yet, here i'm talking about Viktor Blom or even Skjervoy who lost more than 1 million dollars in a single session... So yes, it's a very close emotion betwwen your emotions and bankroll management, you are going to lose big if you can't control your emotions...... Good luck to all mobsters!

Besides all the other poker knowledge that I have still to learn, controlling emotions is for sure the important one. It is not the thing that I am going instantly on tilt when I get a bad beat, but more to keep patience in the long run, when I am carddead. This is the hardest part to me.
