I believe religion is holding back the advancement of evolution. Wars have been fought since over god since he was first invented. There was a time when we needed answers for "why is the sky blue" & "what are the stars" and millions of Questions that both intrigued and frightened us. Some peolple saw an oppurtunity to control and influence the path of mankind and wrote books (bible, koran etc) that claimed to have answers to all questions both logical and theoretical. Once they got the soldiers to follow their beliefs they had won because it was believe or die and that grew through generations so that we followed our parents and peers and religion became main stream and became a way to identify people. TODAY we are educated in science we know why the sky is blue, what the stars are and we are learning every day new things about ourselves and the world we live in. Is it not an insult to be told theirs a man in the sky controlling everything and a demon below ready to pounce when we do wrong or actually in our minds helping us do wrong so he can have our souls c'mon people open your eyes look inside for whats right and wrong. Do we really need to consult an ancient book to know the difference between right and wrong. By thinking god has control we are allowing atrocities in the name of religion we are passing the book pretending we are not at fault because it has to be a divine plan. Its time to stand up and be counted as we are the most advanced intelligence that we know of or have ever known of. We are the most powerful life form on the planet and we are our own responsibility. Its time to write a new book based on fact, science and nature before we ruin this wonderful planet we call home.

The religion debate has come up here many times and always seem to stir up some reaction. I don't really think we need to go into this again as the majority response has always been the same. It's funny but it usually seems that the poker playing community is very atheist. Maybe it's because we need a certain degree of intelligence, maybe it's because religion doesn't exactly endorse gambling.
Whilst I do not want to start another big debate, I feel compelled to post a reply because with respect you're wrong. Religion isn't responsible for blocking evolution, far from it. Evolution is caused by the battle for survival, where the strong out live the weak. Science with it's medical advances and interference in nature, will slow down evolution. The political far right tends to produce the religious fanatics. Socialism, of which I am a great fan, says that we all are equal and that people of every race, every culture, every skill sector, every health and every intelligence have a right to reproduce and construct our future gene pool. I also think that your negative perception of faith is unnecessary. Faith never harms anyone but merely makes them ignorant. It's organised religion which creates war and poses a threat to us in it's attempt to make it's powerful leaders more powerful. But people who read the bible or koran do not necessarily have harmful beliefs. Furthermore faith gave us the moral codes we live by and inspires people to do good things, even if in todays world we atheists can argue that we hold the moral superiority since we don't need the belief we are always being judged to do good.

This is a touchy debate/talk with some people dont try going to have a conversation like this with a person that is very religious they will just turn there backs and ignore the facts..You try to bring up science and they dont want to get into all that and cant ever answer your questions

Not entirely true either. I very recently spoke to a girl who I met on a flight, who claimed to be a devout christian. I wanted to be respectful of her beliefs but I couldn't help but ask her questions about it as I'm always curious about these things. She told me that she didn't mind discussing it as her faith was very important to her. She listened to my reasons for being atheist without insulting me and I listened to her views. Neither of us changed the other's opinion. And you can't expect them to take what you have to say and suddenly realise that they are fools. Their belief is as valid as yours and to say that everyone must be persuaded by the argument of "facts" is absurd.
Faith it has helped a lot of people but it has also led people to be blind to wrong doing and allowed terrible things to happenin in the name of their faith, i dont think all religous people are bad But they are not standing up for what they truly think is right because a "higher power" will either punish or reward them what morals are you referring too. do not kill, steal or shag your neighbours wife. I dont think we needed to be told that. Science is not what is polluting the world its greed and a wasteful society always chasing shiny things then dumping them when they lose their shine making disposable everything to keep a false economy burning. Organised religion is a curse i have no problem with a bit of faith. If a fairy tale makes you happy then good luck to ya. But dont get upset and cause war when i tell you santas not real

Religios wars are a thing of the past, no recent war has come off religion, yes PPL seam to look at the religious side of each party, but they are not fighting for relgion. Lets take something im sure you are aware of, Northern Ireland and ROI, now was thier conflict due to religion or was religion just a means of seperating folk? Its the same everywere, its just a way we can discriminate, PPLS faite in what ever they belive is on the whole a good thing, weather thier faith is true or not. The real problem is PPL trying to dictate that they should or should not belive because they do or dont. The biggist most destructive faith in life is money. And santa is real he now works for Coke-cola.

How is the western world raping Ethiopia, and how does it relate to rasta? The first worl countries will always have a hold on 3rd world, do you think we can all dance in a circle with equality spread across the board, no rich or poor?
If the facts(evidence) say guilty then there is no reasonable doubt,and lots of ppl have got away because their was not enough evidence(facts) yes your right about money, N.I was about hate which was inspired by by a true cause but that cause has long since died a good natural death. It does my heart good to hear others telling it for what it is

Yer thats right, but lots have PPL have been sent down from evidence stating fact for crimes they did not do, it there for is within reasonable doubt weather the crime was commited or not, if a none-guilty person goes to jail it is not a fact that he did it, as he did not. Just because a juge rules the earth as flat does not make it so. I do hope all the problems in Ireland are over, but I dont think it is, its just getting brused under the carpet thanks to 911!
I dont know how it relates to rasta, But the chinese are growing more food in ethiopia than the ethiopians and they have bought up most of the good land which is going to cause another famine similar to irish potatoe famine.Africa is one of the richest places for natural resources on earth as is south america and they are one of least polluters on earth but they are a few hundred trillion dollars in debt. metals, precious stones wildlife and food are leaving africa at an alarming rate but they are starving and broke and full of crazy voodoo beliefs. The western world keeps giving the warlords money and weopons because a people seperated is a people conquered. 3rd world, 2nd world sorry mate but we all live in the same world its just people that are eliteist.
