I think you should pay income tax on your yearly poker winnings if you earn enough. Being a professional gambler is after all just being self-employed. But I don't think you should pay any extra tax or any tax on gambling. I also don't think poker should be considered gambling in the same legal sense as casino winnings.
I'm not really sure what the law in the Uk or anywhere else is. All I know is that I haven't won anywhere near enough for the gov to chase me up.

i could have said this better i just wanted to know if people are ment to pay tax on thier winnings, but awood are u nuts that is the great thing about poker its the only thing in the UK that u dont need to pay tax on bar being a hooker and a drug dealer and even then they will chase u for tax on that if u make enough. i know poker is not like a casino game but it is still gambling its just the odds are in ur control u could say. i mean ive not had any big wins but say i one day won the sunday million on pstars and then i had to give i dont know 20% to the tax man i would be not happy at all it would be well s**t. I always argue with people that poker is not like horses and casino games but that dont mean i would want it so if i was really good or got a big win i want taxed
In denmark se must pay taxes if we withdraw money from sites outside the EU. That's not a problem problem for me cause the only site i have evermade a profit is ONGAME and they're in Malta so good for me

Poor Mr Eastgate
Denmark's tax agency is called SKAT. Denmark, like the United States, does tax gambling winnings. For casino gambling (which is where I believe this will be classified) the tax rate is 45% on the first 4 million Danish Kroners; it's 75% on income above that. Today $1 is worth 5.88907 DKK; Mr. Eastgate won 53,899,250.70 DKK before taxes. Mr. Eastgate will owe about 39,224,438 DKK in tax ($6,660,545). Put another way Mr. Eastgate will keep 14,674,813 DKK ($2,491,871) of his winnings—just 27.23% of his prize. Yes, he faces an effective tax rate of 72.77%. Ouch.

Posted by Flippedchips: im just wondering because in the uk u dont need to pay tax if u have won them with gambling, i was just wondering
in germany its not that easy... playing is illegal at all. or it is forbidden... illegal is to much. but if you play you need to pay taxes after winnings. but when you loose, of course they dont give you money....... rigged anyway..
Pretty sure that u don't have to pay tax on gambling earnings here if your primary sourse of income comes from something else. If your a full time pro on the other hand, then taxes are to be paid.

In Portugal it depends on how much you withdraw, how much you transfer. Little amounts dont get taxed, but politicians are now trying to change those laws, because there is just too many money from portuguese people around in offshores that is transfered in little amounts inside the country so it can be possible to escape taxes. I dont know how much longer wil this be possible. But i think its enough to pay tax from it, thats why the whole world is a comunity, and we (the human race) consider ourselves civilized.

Actually here in Canada,( just like the lottery), you only pay taxes on the interest after the first year unless of course this is your only source of income then yes as you have said. lol Dont really have to worry about that yet
