My game is getting better but i still make the same mistakes  0
OK so my game is good... i feel its good.
I can make money at this game, that is for sure but it isnt where i want it to be...
I just cant seem to come off at the right time. When im up and im talking $100+ I just cant keep up!
I'll play great poker and make a profit but when im going the other way (and lets face it we all do at some point) i just get into free fall mode and have of late lost over $500 in one session Disagree
I know it should be easy to cash out and it is but for some reason i just cant seem to do it at the right time just lately.
Can anyone offer any advise as to make me cash out sooner?

sounds like underlying psychological issues are being taken out on the poker table. Also indicates gambling traits.

Serious - this is how I am, used to have serious gambling prob. Now I curb this by playing poker instead. But I still have trouble keep my winnings, as you put it, when I enter a downer I go into "freefall mode" I've lost over $500 in a session before..

I've often got my account slowly build up to ~$1,000 and then drop it in one night.

Anyway, sounds like there's other issues you're taking to the table with you.

Do it like Ivey does. If you lose to much, stop playing for the day. Chasing losses is a natural thing, but one of the worst mistakes a player can make.

try to post a couple of hands were you noticed you are beginning to lose it all ...

Of course its hard to cash-out in time, we dont want to cash out a small profit we want to cash out millions and millions, but just face it that one have to start making profit somewere with small cash-outs and from there just build the profit.

You really havent WON a single cent before the money is transferred from your poker account to your bank account ...

I cashed out 60 $ from partypoker today, how silly isnt that but it was still a 40 $ profit ...

If you want to make reasonable money off poker it is very challenging.

You have one a few options in front of you. You can start from a small amount and grind up limits following proper BRM the whole way. Moving up limits when you go above a certain amount but making sure you drop back down when you start losing. (I cant stomach this. I can beat a level, feel happy, build my roll. move up, hit a downswing but stay on the higher level and thats when my bankroll really hurts). This is a real long haul. Grinding out low limits is a very poop hourly rate. If you are playing with $50 total like an average no deposit bonus, you should drop $2.5 at a table. At this rate you should be playing on something like 0.01/0.02 or 0.02/0.05. A good player will earn something like 10bb/100 who really wants to be earning 50 cents per hundred hands. Might as well go work a week and come back with real money to drop. Chris ferguson did make $10k in one year from $0. A feat of which i am more impressed than some of the multimillion dollar cash game winners at high stakes.

Your second option it to throw bankroll management to the wind. Play with 20% upwards of your stack at the table and when you win it will be good. But a point in time will come where you lose and that will be the end of your entire roll. You could win. But you might aswell buy a lottery ticket. Without Bankroll management your results will be more about your luck than your skill.

Your last option is to fund your bankroll away from the poker table. If you start with 1k that your happy to deposit then the hourly rate as long as you win when you follow proper brm isnt so tiny.

Of course finally you can play poker for fun. If you dont care if your making profitable use of your time then it doesnt matter if it would be a wiser decision to work at McD's.

This reply is pretty ranty and i apologise for it. I hope it helps you think about why it is you nose dive

well, IMO if you win some good money in a tourney or after a long cash session and you don't want to stop or cash it out and feel satisfied, I think it's got something to do with how you set priorities in your life about where do you seek pleasure from.

Let's face it, poker is probably the most attractive and addictive game in the history of mankind! And the reason I'm saying this is 'cause in the last 30 years of my life I've played hundreds of addictive pc games and board games, and ultra competitive collectable card games (I don't know if you're familiar with Magic The Gathering, but it's so addictive it hurts!!... and I was playing for many years in every tournament held in my country for prize money...)

Anyway, all these are games that include a gambling factor, but when you win after long hours of play, you really feel satisfied and complete for a while, and you may give it a break and go back to your normal life... With poker it's another thing, because there are more money involved, and the will to get more and more in a way that seems easy can lead to very tricky situations.

Whenever I've just won some good money in a tourney and I feel I just want to keep playing in higher buy-ins, I realise that I'm actually on TILT!... And that's dangerous, cause it's a sure thing that if I start losing, while on tilt, my plays will suck and I'll eventually lose much more.. it's like you scored twice with your girlfriend today and you both really enjoyed it, but somehow you feel that if you don't do it like five times you won't be complete... like not being able to seek pleasure from actual achievements, but always setting goals to reach and worrying about them... a tricky game of the mind where you can't realise that you had enough for today. I've lost about $130 being on tilt so far, every time after some good wins, just because after a while the tides had turned and I couldn't stop playing my lousy game... although it's not a big amount, I don't want to lose more in such a way ever again... it's a mathematical fact that when you're playing to get even, you are much more likely to lose more and more 'cause you haven't got a clear mind... Millions of poker players can assure you about this.. Better pull the power plug violently from the laptop if it helps! Blink

If you just have the urge to keep playing because you like the game, what the heck, enter a $5 MTT with a lot of people and enjoy the game without the fear of actually putting your bankroll into risk... at least this is what I do.... and think about some cool stuff you can buy with your winnings so far... Probably this should help!... Blink

ok, enough said... don't push your luck in your game, but anyway good luck! Thumbs Up

Well, even your headline is contravercal. If you keep doing same mistakes, your game is not better. Game starts, when you make deposit and ends after sucsessful withdraw.

..while fearing that I may monopolize this thread I'd also add a couple of lines:

1) For every one that wins some cash in a tournament, there are about 9-10 others that lose their buy-in. So it's possible that even if we're good players, there'll be lots of times when we'll be among those 10 guys. The thing is that whenever you win a place in the prize money, you have to win more than you lost all the other times when you were eliminated

2) I can imagine how happy my opponent will be on the other side of the line, when he realises that I'm on tilt and I'm doing shitty plays the one after the other... He'll rub his hands in delight and say "let's loot the hell out of this sucker now that he's on tilt!"... well I don't want to give this kind of pleasure to anybody... so I better learn to f**kin' fold my top pair or my sets when there are straight and flush draws ready on board and a tight player goes all-in. It's like everybody else on the table could bet a million that this guy actually has a flush, except me that I'm so blind to see it and I actually call!!!... and then of course I get mad and want to smash things!... stupid tilt plays... nope, not for me anymore...

3) I never ever believed in my life that I can be a millionaire through cash games! I mean never!.. Look at all the pros, Isildur, Dwan a.o., they can lose such vast amounts in a couple of hands... the swings are so huge... But if I feel I've evolved as a player, I can always try the Sunday Million and other big tourneys on Pokerstars, FTP, PartyPoker etc... there are qualifiers for these tourneys for a low as $50, so if I'm good and I feel luck is on my side for a while, I can actually test myself there and win bigtime... Yes, I believe over the course of time that anybody who is a step above decent player can do this, with very low risk of the bankroll

Have fun at the tables Cool

set yourself a limit, when you reach it just leave straight away and join a different table if you still want to play a bit more Smile
