Show or muck  0
I know we've had a thread about showing/mucking uncalled hands before but the reason I bring this up is cos I've just been playing at partypoker and they seem to have changed the mucking system. At least I've never noticed it before so I assume it's new.

Not only does it ask you if you want to show your cards when no one calls but it's started asking me to show cards when I'm the last person to fold. This to my knowledge has never been done before online although I see it happen all the time in live play.

Typically what happens live is you know the other person is bluffing but you can't make the call so you tell them, fold anyway and throw over you cards in anger.

The other thing that party is now doing is allowing to show one card rather than both. This also happens in lots of my live games, usually to hide a weak kicker but sometimes to make the other player think you were bluffing when you weren't. Although I was under the impression that some casinos have a rule where if you show one you must show both.

I think most people know that showing cards is a bad idea and just gives free information to the table. That's why I always use auto-muck but auto-muck doesn't seem to stop party asking me anyway. But live play is a little different. I have shown a bluff cos I'm with friends or cos I want people to respect my skills.

So do you think party is onto a good thing? Or do you like me think that it just gets in the way playing online, live is a different story?

PKR has always had the option to show when it folds around to you on big blind. It's kinda funny if you get AA and it folds to you and all you win is the blinds (your big blind back + small blind) then there is no harm clicking "show" since it gives away nothing at all..

Also - PKR - has always had the option of displaying just one of your cards.. now.. this is more interesting IMO - let's say for example, deep stacked cash, effective stacks 200big blind +, and you get dealt 66 or something and theres a bit of action pre and you go along for the ride hoping to hit your set. Say flop comes A6X person with AK puts in a big raise, you re-raise, they bank and eventually fold - you then show just ONE of your cards (obv a 6) now - this can easily make them think you're an idiot who's called A6os or something and flopped a miracle two pair.. Get's people to tilt as well - showing them a useless card..

Still though - 99% of time I auto-muck. About my only exceptions are if somebody is genuinely tilting and I *KNOW* I can manipulate their play by showing one or both cards (generally only when playing HU cash will I do this)

Otherwise I reserve the show card option for quads, straight flushes and the occasional royal flush. Oh - and as mentioned before, if i get dealt AA or KK and it folds to me - if i get auto-muck off in time I'll show that to a friendly table -for a laugh - but I'd only bother if there had been table banter.

Hi guys, I really like the topic 'show or muck'... tons of articles are being discussed through the net about it. I think at the merge network, you can show your cards when you are the last person to fold... right? But as I said before it's much better to always muck while playing poker online.

Usually i have the auto muck function doing the mucking for me. But i like it, when other players show their cards from time to time.

I played PartyPoker last night and saw what you mean, annoyed the hell out of me at first until I figured out how to turn it off! But yeah, it nicely replicates what you can do live. I personally never show and always muck, especially when multi-tabling who has the time? Usually the donk at the table who is playing super-aggro and showing every single bluff gets de-stacked after a few rounds. Either a player will sit and wait for the killer hand and let Mr. aggro bluff into him a couple of times, or he will have a monster, nobody will believe him and someone will suck out on him. Some site have the automatic muck, i dont like to use it, and i hope nobody uses it, cause i like to make review of the hand history in the site when its a big pot, to calculate the odds of the bets.

I dont mind about people auto showing theyr bluffs, nowadays its hard to tilt the other players in the tables with that kind of moves.

I agree with Jess that showing one card can be used quite cleverly and I have done something similar when playing live. But I kinda think it should be a live thing only and I wouldn't be so bold online when you don't know who's making notes on you and you don't really need to resort to any special tactics to make money.

The only time I don't auto-muck is when I want to show an amazing/amusing hand and I've been quite friendly at the table but even then it's probably a bad idea. Or when someone asks me to show and again I'm probably being too nice. I almost think it would be better not to have the option. If no one used auto-muck it would seriously slow the game up. Also people often get on my nerves showing insignificant hands. I suppose it's nice to know but when people so clearly hit a card and show the hand I think 'so what's your point.'

Oh and dozn please don't hijack my thread. Or I'll have to get admin to give you a spanking. Evil

Man - PKR has a nice 'emote' for this

/nk

"jessthehuman says no kidding [insert player name]"

and yeh i agree, slows the game down, fkn pisses me off, when people who never even show a card, don't tick 'auto-muck' and they multi-table so every fkn hand you got to wait for the show-card timer to run out. At a live game you'd be smacked.

I´m playing on Party tonight.
Curious to see what you mean.

More and more sites seem to be doing it, I get the impression.
I think like you awood, that there`s a place for it in live games, but less so in online Poker.
I never show online.

Don´t mind the option unless it slows things down, and in that case it sucks!

I never show online, and think that it's better to not show information here.

Seems like a good feature nevertheless to have the ability to do it, as it's common to find this kind of play even on the pros table that can be seen on TV.

MUCK

INFORMATION = POWER in poker

and NOT mucking is giving opponents information

(EXCEPTIONAL CASES) : SHOW AS PART OF A TRICKY STRATEGY of image and deception

Never.

Let you opponents guess.

If you have it, let your opponents guess if you did, don't make them fell good to have folded the worst hand.

When you are running over the table with success, keep the pressure until they start to pay back on you, then you can slowdown and wiat for good spots to get paid. When you show it, a slow down will be mandatory because you will not be able to outplay your opponents so soon again.

And that's exactly my point. It's different when the pros do it in a live game. They know each other and they can push buttons. It goes with the banter. It's used as an extra kick in the ribs. It's good entertainment. But online poker is not the same and people copying what they think goes on in live play is just embarrassing.
