I consider myself to be an alright player overall. I often find myself in the final few hundred out of massive player fields in freerolls. However I rarely make it into the payout. Does anyone have any tips for closing the deal?

Keep an eye on how many chips you have relativ to Big Blind. If your stack falls under 24 BB stop calling - just raise or fold. If your stack falls under 12 BB its just push or fold. If tournament comes near to payout (to the Bubble) try do be a bit more aggressive, because all players are scared of busting out (they try to fold in the money) For sure everything with appropriate hands. I have some stuff to read about these tactics, but for sure this is alll in german.

If you like then search in the net for Dan Haringtons M model/factor. It is model of calculating in which phase of a tournament you are relatively to your stack and the blind + antes. In addition it gives advice in which phase you should choose which tactic. Just have a look at it (it is for MTT in general, so please keep in mind specialities of a freeroll especially in early phase)

I guess I have to look at that too. As I can get to the late stage quite often I don't know how to play then... I guess you have to put your agression up a little bit, but haven't checked it yet.

OK - if you want to min cash... but the fact is a QUICKER table actually has an EDGE over slow tables.. Think about it - the more hands you can play at a blind level before it increase - the BETTER. If you time out all the time so your table plays less hands (and ofc you effectively pay less blinds/antes) you might have a better chance of making a min cash - but ultimately you're screwing yourself over.

@ Jessthehuman ... I agree ... I thought the thread was referring to 'bubble time' and being very close to the bubble, which is the only time I might use the timer to slow down the game.

Don´t get this last one... You were doing so well. Where does the "Tilt" come from all of a sudden? Care to explain?

Heres the story, I'm on the button... Folded around to me accept for Rustam in middle position who limps in (refer to photo for exactly where he was)....I have ace 8 suited so I make the standard 3 times the blind raise (would of done it with about any hand on the button) . Both the small blind and big blind were forced all in as they were the short stacks. Rustam slow calls, the flop hits. Jack 8 and i don't remember the other card. I hit a pair of 8's with ace high kicker. But i knew that this might not be enough to beat the shortstacks and i didn't want to feed them so i check. Rustam comes back with a 10,000 bet. I'm thinking either he hit Two pair, or has pocket rockets. Fold. So now rustam's hand shows up, Pair of jacks 2 kicker Then turn comes ACE!!! Shortstack has an ace beats rustam and wins a portion of my money and effectively feeds the shortsttack

i had this argument the other night with my brother, like if your short he will waste the time up to try and cash. i was saying if im short i fold soon as to get more hands before the blinds come to me maybe i can catch a hand to ship it and double up
