Cates's iPhone broke down during $25k prop bet

Professional poker players are known to gamble for lots of money, and it's not only poker and sports betting they love to bet on. Daniel Cates, 2010's biggest winner online, recently said in an interview that he betted $25,000 to the odds 1/4 in a game of Angry Birds against his close friend Ashton Griffins. Even though a lot of money was at stake, the only rule was that the one who accumulated mo[...]   Read more » Cates's iPhone broke down during $25k prop bet

They have to much money and do not know the value of it, so they gamble it away on the weirdest bets, give me the money instead.

I agree, it's a little bit stupid... Okey, not little bit. It's stupid as hell. Of course it's his money, but it would be better to donate it to some charity, not do some weird prop bets not related with poker.

Yeah, I know it's a stupid prop bet, but I guess when you are used to multi-tabling poker games several hours a day and the rug gets pulled out from under you, your brain starts to short circuit. They should do a prop bet of who can win the most play money on FT in 24 hours.

This guys are so radical with money, they really dont give it any value at all. Money is just something to bet, an incentive created to play. Every psychologists say that the "game" is something valuable that every kid should start the sooner possible. Games are used to educate children on the good and the bad, the win and the loose, the "have more" or "have less". Having this in mind, its easy to see that this professional bet players think in money as points. And wins who have more "points", call it money or anything else. At the moment of the bet, none of the players is thinking (like most of us would do) on what they would do if they won a huge amount of money. They want to win because they like to play and winning just means they will be known for having won that huge amount of money. Even if in the day after they are loosing all of it in another crazy bet!

As said above they have worked hard grinding it now let them have fun with it, if thats pissing it against a wall so be it as long as your having fun

Well, you'r right, but not at all. The fact that there are scams isn't a reason to stop helping people, isn't it? I think everyone knows a few organisations that aren't scam so it isn't problem at all, IMO it's just stupid excuse.

You'r right that he can do what he want's, but if helping people won't make him happy mora than stupid Angry Birds on iPhone (stupid when comparing to charity, actually it's a hell of a gam! Big Smile) then he should visit some doctor, that's for sure.

And I don't know how it looks in other countries and probably it will sound odd while I think I don't know adequate words to describe it, but I'll try - from what I know in Poland you own your money, but it's still a property of the country in some way and it's in law that you can go to jail (or get a fine) if you'll destroy the money (e.g. throw it in fire or something like that), while like I said it's property of the country in some way.

Money is the thing that should be respected, no matter how much do you have.

You definately gotta love these kind of prop bets. I'm glad that Daniel Cates lost the bet lol I don't really appreciate him as poker player or as person, mostly because he sees the poker game just like a way to make money and not for the game. Well i'm sure he also likes the poker game but as he said he plays poker just to get rich and not for the joy of playing poker.
On the other hand these kinf od bets are very popular amongst poker players. The biggest side bet like this was between Phil Ivey and Tom Dwan durrrr for one million dollars. Ohil wasn't allowed to eat meat for a yer but after 6 months he eat a piece of chicken and lost the bet. I also don't trust charities, i only trust charities sponsored by a person, i mean companies or persons do their own charity.
