Donkeys and dilemas  0
I was in a $3500gtd tourney, made it to the money but was savagely taken out by the most horrendous suck out. I can't seem to know what to do when i encounter these so called "donkeys" i was around the 50,000 chip mark the guy i was against was on 54,000 chips. i am holding AK he raises to 8,000 i re-raise to 24,000 he just calls, the flop comes K 10 7, he checks i push all in happy to take the pot there and then, however he calls holding Q8 WTF? i'm thinking i can't lose. the turn is a 9 the river a J. makes me sick . how can he ever justify that call? why did he call? now i'm just playing scared online at the moment can someone help or just share an experience similar and join me in hating on the idiots that play, im all for donks its easy money but in tourneys like that it is so annoying. peace and love all x

He shouldnt have called with q8 , thats so sick, theres no rhyme or reason sometimes , i get very disheartened with on line poker sometimes, i play in a live league, and the standard is so much better, anyway good luck to you at the tables Smile

From time to time you will find yourself facing such plays.
Believe me it wont be your last time having someone calling with crap.
It happens often.
Just try not to tilt and carry on.

Good point. It's poker, Big Smile Big Smile I also get it often. that's dark site of poker. I am sure every poker player got it many time. we can avoid it. I really ask to know why he call ? Do you ask him ?

Usually, I didn't get an answer, even sometimes they call me loser

ok ok I got one better....today BRM freeroll on ps. not quite the same stakes but still un-explainable.

blinds are 2500, 5000. late in position donk to my left limps in. I have 77. raise to 15000. have a lil less than 50 thousand. folds around to idiot boy. he goes all in. he has me covered. i call. he shows a A4o.
I'm like cool. dodge an ace I'm golden.
Now this is where it gets sick. flop 38K, turn 8, river K. I dont mind losing to the ace but when its his kicker...I get a lil frustrated. wheres the fold equity? I dont understand this move...even just calling in with the weak ace.

when the board beats ya up....its worse than losing to a donkey. Aww crap! Aww crap! Confused

Worst beat i ever hand was way back in paradise poker days. cash ring game and i was playing way over my head in stakes. I was trying to pull a matt damon and double up on kgb. I sat and after a few orbits was sitting up 20-30 dollars when it happened. i pick up QQ in the small blind (i even know it was the skin with the water and its been years but i was that sick) with a caller and a min raise after i decide to heat check and bet pot. the flat caller calls but the og raiser folds. being flatted worried me but the flop comes down QKK. The other guy checks first and i bet half the pot. He raises me back and the pot is at 270$ My hand trembling i put him on AK. Why not KK? because another thing i remember about it all was i was all about, if you cant spot the fish... and during my brief time on the table i knew this guy was weaker then the others. The whole way he played the hand said KK but he probably didnt know that.

so i ship it ALL. the pot is over 700$ and he turns over AQ. motherfucker i got him!!! i jump around fist pumping not giving a s**t!! I just dropped em on his chin and i dont care. gimme my money.!!!

beep beep beep???? the table wants to know if i want to buy in? WTF??? the guy has MY money!! somehow his AQ lied to the computer and s**t happened. I bring up the log and sure as s**t. he hit KK turn and river.

I stopped playing poker for a year at least after that. The sight of cards made me sick. no lie i almost hated hoyle. its amazing how much a single automated 5% chance can change things. When i returned to playing it was slowly and mostly a more cynical type of play. It wasnt until i read supersystems and harrington on holdem that i realized i have to keep playing to edge those beats.

so im sorry for the late night rant but my best advice is to walk away when your feeling shook and not return until you're ready.

@ original poster
that' sick.....
anyway I have learned not to care too much about these happenings, I worry much more when someone outplay me: this is the moment you have to work on your game and study that particular spot to understand where you did played wrong.
try to work on your pokermindset and keep on playing your A-game

@micromachina

that's sicker....hope your PC survived that hand Big Smile

It's best not to think too much about it. Donkeys like that, that ship it drawing virtually drawing dead, are our bread and butter. Sucks when they suckout, but just forget about it, and play the next game. Take pride knowing you got it in good, and move on bro.

Some devastating accounts there. Not much in terms of above and on freeroll tables but yesterday I got spanked 3 times whilst having AA (pre-flop) or better after.

And after around three hours of play it really does your head in. But to be fair I am sure I was guilty of the same when I first started.

I cried when I read your story. Sad Sometimes poker can be so brutal and so beautiful at the same time.

Greetings TimBigChips and welcome to the forums. I was thinking about your situation and I think the reason he may have called was because he felt pot committed? Perhaps he figured he'd be better trying his luck for a big pot then folding to a small stack and being bullied out. Not a smart move but definitely annoying.

That's exactly my way of thinking Big Smile You never have control over what comes out after you did what you had to do, and poker is gambling, so s**t happens!

Can't control what's coming from the dealer, just have to hope that u don't get sucked out. On the other hand, when u get sucked out repeatedly in a short span, leave and take a long break....like a month or two.

He could have just pressed the wrongs button, that sh!t happens.. Remember one time, final table, 230 000 chips, had A6s, SB, wanted to snatch the blinds of a 180 K, betting 20k but oh, what? One zero to many.. I wagered 200 K.. The guy is thinking, i am just hoping he doesn't call and the last second.. Boom.. He calls with AQ.. I lose.. Tried to recover after, failed, the rest is history..

Donk play, but not intentional.. The 700$ cash story hurts, wouldn't wish it to my enemies.. If i had them in the first place.. Lol
