Do you usually use chat during online poker games? If so, what do you write there? Do you intend to know better your oponents or its just to upset others and bluff? Tell us your opinion about the importance of online poker chat!

I will start this poll with my opinion. I dont use chat that often. Normally i tell one or other hand when i dont go to a certain hand that i could have won if i did had went. But i dont like to pay much atention to it because there are a lot of players who use it to upset others and, at least with me, they have that effect if i read it a lot.

Yes i do the same if someone insults me first ... When im scooping a big pot with a lucky catch on the river and people are calling me a donk im often writing something like "Ship it to the pro from the fat fish"

I used to chat when I was playing one or two tables, but now that I typically play 6-12 I don't have time. I monitor what other people are saying though, as people who are raging in the chat box after a bad beat are often easy pickings, just need the right ammunition...

Don't use it too much, it depends if I'm in chatting mood or not... anyway when I do the purpose is to get mney from oppos: either making them tilt or encouraging donks telling them they have been unlucky in their (horrible) plays.

I've found "Chat" to have it's ups and downs. I've played when players are courtious to one another and been on tables where players are absolutely mean to one another. I've laughed at comments, been frustrated at comments and have got to meet some very interesting individuals via "Chat". Chat is great when everyone is relatively familiar with eachother. For example, I had a lot of fun when BMWman was setting up the Mobsters weekly NLH games, but of course all the players were familiar with eachother thanks to the BRM forum. If someone is being a butthead it's easy to get frustrated and this as we all know, can interfere with your game so shut it off and focus on playing. Good Luck to all!

otherwise it can get you information about a player and every now and then I really had some good discussions like those beginning with: "ur a fookin muppet. u prick ...". That just makes your day when getting the feedback there was something damned right with that last hand
I met some interesting people from around the world during time by using chat, but I agree it´s better to avoid it if money is on the line.

if i see another fellow canadian on my table i almost always ask what part of canada there from. dont ussually start a conversation with a particular person unless they write the common "NH" in the chat box. then i might spark up a conversation with them. sometimes too ill throw the odd name call or some foul word out if i see someones shooting the s**t in there. ive told quite a few ppl in the chat box about brm too if were having good conversation, donno if theyve signed up or not.

Big thumbs up. Always encourage donk in their donk plays.
.... never ever tap on the acquarium mate
..... never.....
In one of my David Sklansky books he writes about that. If you tell a donk he is a donk enough times, two things can happen - both of them bad: 1. He realizes he is a donk and stops playing 2. Realizes he is not playing well and decides to improve
The same thing goes with giving people free poker lessons. Sometimes in chat a player will give out some really good advice to another player who just f*cked up. Why would you want to do that when it took you a certain amount of effort and experience to get to where you are?
Also, when the pot is raised and reraised and reraised again allin preflop because one player has KK and the other AA, and the flop comes down 7-2-2, nobody really cares that you folded 7-2 so STFU! If you want to go all-in preflop against my monsters with 7-2 please go right ahead...
