There are lots of these type of documentaries, and I enjoy them as much as the next guy. What bothers me though, is that it's always presented in a sort of euphoric "we've solved it" manner.

In fact, often there a problems with a lot of the great 20th century theories. The Big Bang Theory for example does not explain the (huge) size of the known universe; not by a long way...
For that they have conjured up something called "Inflation theory" (where in the first few moments after the big bang, expansion occurred at many times the speed of light)...

I often get the feeling we've just replaced one belief-system (i.e. religion) with another one (i.e. science), neither one of which is truthful. I do however much prefer the one that is mostly based on reason.

P.S. one book about religion vs. science, that is particularly eloquent about the subject is by Richard Dawkins - "The God Delusion"; a must-read, if you're interested in the subject.

Excellent book. If this sort of thing interests you I'd recommend "In Search of Schrodinger's Cat", and "Schrodinger's Kittens", both by John Gribbon. Also "Why does E=mc2" by Brian Cox.
