Auto registration after winning a tournament ticket on PP  0
Yesterday I won a ticket to the "WPT National Marbella Sub Qualifier Speed Rebuy ($1)" in a freeroll, on Party Poker.

This afternoon I started my client, only to find myself in a tournament, that was already running for 17 minutes...

I did not register for this tournament, but PP decided to enter me for it, without letting me know. There was no link for the target tournament, and there was no mention of it in my "My tournaments" schedule, so I figured I could just pick one of the events in the coming week, to use my ticket with...

It was just blind luck that I happened to start the client software when I did. I suspect this happened to me a few times before, without me realizing it (I usually try to win a few in a row to get tournament dollars).

Did anyone have a similar experience, or know how to prevent this in the future?

I know you can unregister, but for that to work, you need to know that you are registered in the first place.

I also won an ticket once and was registered but i found out cause it was written in the my Tournament list so i could unregister but i think you couldn´t to anything about the problem that they register you cause they say in the freerolls entry for the next Subqualifer so they register you for it instantly after the freeroll.

It's best to go to your user profile, account or cashier (different terms for sites), but anyway check to make sure what your status is when winning tournament tickets, satellite tournaments, etc. If there's no record of your tickets in your account then search or the tournament and like you stated unregister. Just good general practice to prevent missing out on something your qualified for.
Used to win tickets for the weekly in FT and they would auto-register you to play so that's when I started verifying these things. Miss a couple then you know! Good Luck to All!

I have run into this at PP as well. I believe you have to play the first tourney that you win in such freerolls and you are automatically registered as soon as you win the ticket. Once you have played the next round and you win another ticket you can unregister to receive tournament dollars. But you have to play the first one. And unregister each time to receive tourney dollars.

bit of a pain in the ass, but hey free TDs.

I think this is standard in most pokerrooms?

Not sure though......

It has happened to me too on PP, but in my case it was a $22 ticket and I didn't realise it until it was already over. It seems they auto register you anyway even if in my case they specifically stated that I had to register manually! Better check your tournaments whenever you win a ticket.

Thanks everybody.

While I was aware that you are sometimes automatically registered, after winning a ticket (as it seems maybe it does it always), I did not spot it this time.

Maybe because the target event was not specified.

I did check the "My tournaments" calendar, after winning the ticket, but it did not show it. I suppose this happens a lot, because there were 2 players at my table, that showed no activity other than posting the blinds.

I think I will explicitly register for a tournament of my choosing, in future, and then maybe unregister the next day, to prevent this happening again...

@GomerAssassi: I think you can unregister, even if it's the first time you've won a ticket (I've done so several times in the past). It's just that you can only get tournament dollars, when you've got an unused ticket in your account.
In fact, it's not even possible to have 2 tickets for the same event, because any additional ticket gets automatically converted to tournament dollars.

Been there and i have to say its a silly system.
I have lost a few tickets that way while i had the chance to cancel them and register at a
time i wanted to simply by not remembering to after a long tournament session.

I have to say though that they sent an email notifying you about this but if you check
you email too late...

This is happening on all sites but it takes few seconds to unregister.. Every time i win a ticker for a certain tournament i always go to check if i' m registered and if i want to play it later i'll unregister... Be sure you follow these simple steps every time you win a tiket, if you don' t want to find yourself in that situation ... Anyway if you read the tournament descriprion it is mentioned that the winners are automatically registered to the tournaments...

not sure how this works on party poker, but on riverstars when you win a ticket to some tourney you either get registered automatically, or have to register manually- usually this info is given on a tournament page, but sometimes you have to check yourself- i think similar situation is with party...

I've just noticed that PP did send me an email, telling me about the registration:

Congratulations on winning a WPT National Marbella Sub Qualifier Speed Rebuy qualifier.

You have been registered to the WPT National Marbella Sub Qualifier Speed Rebuy tournament to be held on 07/04/2012 07:15:00 AM ET.

Please keep in mind that there will be no refunds for single entries.

Do you know you can go on winning multiple entries to the WPT National Marbella Sub Qualifier Speed Rebuy tournament?
That's right but you must play your first WPT National Marbella Sub Qualifier Speed Rebuy entry first and any additional entries will be refunded to your PartyAccount.com account.

The tournament you have been automatically registered for will be added into your My tournaments, My favourites section of the web site.

Thank you for your support and please feel free to contact our Customer Care team Department if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

PartyPoker.com Team

However this email arrived Sat, Apr 7, 2012 at 6:15 AM

This is local time so it's 7 hours before the start of the tournament, but more than 4 hours after finishing the qualifier...

That's probably why I didn't find it in "My tournaments". After winning the ticket, I did look, but then went off to bed, only to turn my computer back on the next day, with the tournament already started...

I fear that there was no way for me to prevent this, other than registering myself, immediately after winning.

I'm not even sure of my reply to GomerAssassi now; maybe PP does not give you any choice, for the first time you win. Come to think of it, I might have always played the first event after winning a ticket; the tickets and tournament dollars I currently have may have come from 2nd and 3rd time wins of the same event...
