I'm far from being the experienced player that know's all the proper terminology or when to steal blinds, etc. But, playing in these step games in Carbon and there's 3 or 4 players out of of a field of 10 that just go allin to see if they can hit is rediculous.
Yeah, I usually have to comment about their skillful tactics, but this isn't poker and it's not even fun, at least in my eyes. I just don't understand what one's purpose to do this is especially when they may have a 10, 6 that may not even be suited.

It's the curse of on-line poker I'm afraid. They just hope to get lucky. Unlike a live game they can just fire up another one and they don't have to put up with ridicule they'd receive from the other players.

Yeah same here.

Just to highlight the contrast, I play a home tournament on Tuesdays. only a £5 buy in and only four players. These games usually last 3 1/2 to 4 hrs. Could you imagine that happening on-line?

It's all about being held accountable for your actions.

Explanation for this is quite simple. Those step games are multi step freerolls. So one has to expect the usual freeroll style of play: Go big or go bust.

Haha , I know what you mean , I mostly play on pokerstars , but same situation , especially in the 100k freeroll , and what I like is that when I ask them why are they playing like drunk buffons , they arogantly reply , hey , it's just a freeroll , or it's just a low buy-in tournament , but they're only playing that tournament and probably don't have 10 cents in their accounts. It's sad.

We have to adapt to these situations. If you really want to play a freeroll seriously, you have to fold your first 10 hands, even with AA. If it's a cash game, well, you just have to be a little patient and you can easily clean up the table with a good profit Big Smile

It's Darwin theory ... it's not the strongest that wins, but who can better adapt Agree

Perhaps they are doing that with their no deposit bonus. And when they reach a certain position in that steps tourney they know that the worst they can get as a prize is to have to play the step behind again. I believe this is one of the resons for having so many doing crazy plays like that.

a freeroll is a freeroll- you just cant and shouldn't expect people to take it same as a cash game/or paid sng/mtt..it's just psychology, you do not risk anything, you play loose, and sometimes you do this just because you do not want to be stuck in a tourney for a couple of hours to be busted anyway- so people play aggressive at the start- if they are successful, they tighten in later stages

If the games you are talking about is the ones were you get a ticket
for the final step to win 1$ from nothing then its absolutely reasonable.
Free to enter, one game after another, makes a sense.

Your right to an extent, but your not going to win playing that way. I've won several $1 and it's not much, but patience is still the way to win here. Your right to another extent because it knocks out 2 -4 players at a time leaving 1 with a stack in which I've watched them lose several times. It's just poker is to be played with some type of discipline and that's how I will always play it.

Indead it s miost common that the lucky bigstack will not be the winner at the end.

Especially when there only 3 players left and the bigstack will think he s unbeatable and mostly makes to many calls.
Also HU they are easy to beat, unless they have a lucky hit again.

well , there are some players who just play poker for fun and enter all-in with 7 2 , or they are just drunk / high.

Sometimes i wonder if they are not using some programs for cheating. I look for some players and they enter only when they win. But they enter with hands like 6 4, 2 5, 10 5, etc. hands like no1 with some experience in poker will join. For example, 2 days ago played in tourney and i had AA , raised to 5 times big blind ( was 200 ) , and i got called by some1 with 10 5. on flop was J 10 6. I go all-in he called. He won on. with 2 pairs, 10 5. How can a normal player could call on that pre-flop and on flop. Next hand he goes all-in , some1 called him with A J. He had Q 3, he won....

this style is very often in freerolls and they win when they are lucky....but i usually dont want to call this all in without a very good hand...
