NBC's Heads-Up Championship will kick off on January 24 and run until January 26, and if 2011's top prize is anything to go by, then one player will walk away with a cheque for at least $750,000.
Through a combination of forum tweets and conversations between pros, the following list of confirmed players has emerged:
Viktor "Isildur1" Blom, Chris Moneymaker, Mohsin Charania, Greg Merson, Olivier Busquet, Faraz Jaka, Matt Glantz, Andy Frankenberger, Will Failla, Matt Salsberg, Jason Alexander and Toby Maguire.
After filming wraps up at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, the show will undergo a series of edits before it airs on NBC's Sports Network on March 14, 21 and 28.

G'day mates

Wow is all I can say. Not one of the players I enjoy watching is even on the above list.
I mean where are the real cool fun to watch players.
This event just lost a major amount of it appeal for me.
I think without at least one of the following players the event is really a waste of time.

Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Phil Ivey, Scotty Nguyen, or even Mike "The Mouth" Matusow

Those are just the guys but where are the great female players?
I do not see a single one on that above list.

Good luck to you all.

From what i remember Moneymakes was pretty much always has been invited to his event but i think the "attraction" this year will be Viktor.

Judging by the lsit that is up know i think he definately has the edge on heads up no limit holdem.

A draw party to determine the heads-up bracket will take place on January 23rd, and the event will be filmed from January 24th - 26th.
The buy-in is $20,000, and the 64-player field will include a combination of poker pros and celebrities. 32 participating players were named in a press release:

• Doyle Brunson • Erik Seidel • Andy Bloch • Daniel Negreanu
• Brian Hastings • Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier • Andrew Frankenberger • Phil Galfond
• Antonio Esfandiari • Will Failla • Matt Glantz • Barry Greenstein
• Maria Ho • Vanessa Rousso • Phil Ivey • Mike Matusow
• John Hennigan • Faraz Jaka • Ben Lamb • David Williams
• Jonathan Duhamel • Tom Dwan • Greg Merson • John Monnette
• Mike Sexton • Mohsin Charania • Olivier Busquet • Jennifer Tilly

In addition to those players, at least Viktor 'Isildur1' Blom, Jason Mercier, Dan junglemandan Cates have stated via Twitter that they'll be playing.

It seems NBC's Heads-Up Championship roster has caused somewhat of a stir amongst the poker community.

While there's always been a certain amount of debate surrounding the organisers' selections, this time around the picks have caused more controversy than ever.

According to Daniel Negreanu, "it's pretty clear Tom Marchese wins the award" for the biggest omission of the year.

The support for Marchese seems almost universal, so much so that the American grinder decided to air his own views on Twitter:

"I wish I was wildly entertaining at the table but I’m not. Thing is, the old generation made their living being entertainers (huge sponsorship $). The new generation makes it by playing good poker."

Olivier Busquet also signalled his discontent, stating that "entertainment" now seems to be defined by players being "dbags", whereas "having class and being respectful" doesn't seem to appeal to TV bosses.

On the other side of the debate, players such as John D'Agostino and Luke Schwartz have taken a more disinterested view, stating "who cares" whether a player is ranked in the GPI 10 or not.
