Anybody Play The OLG Poker Tourneys In Ontario...?  0
I have been subscribed to the OLG (Ontario Lottery & Gaming Commission) Newsletter for a few years now. You never know what lottery promotions come up where you can get free Lotto tickets, or play for prizes on-line...!

They also advertise the upcoming poker tournaments at the various OLG horse-racetracks and other venues...! I've always wanted to get away and get in on that action.

Just curious....any of you Mobsters from Ontario here ever compete in any of these..., and what's it like? Ever win some serious money...? How's the quality of play at these live tourneys...?

I've played some Black Jack at some of these,...but never Poker...!

Maybe they have these types of things in the other provinces. Let's hear how you've done if so...? Thumbs Up

Ya guys.... It would be a LOT of fun I figure... I also figure that once you start playing these live tourneys,...it might be hard to stop...! I've never played live tourneys other than playing poker with a few buddies.

Hanover Raceway is the closest to me,...but one day I hope to get over to CasinoRama by Orillia.

I hear the casino in Windsor is quite the place snippy-dude...! Thumbs Up

EDIT: Hey,...if you get playing in Sarnia or Windsor,...let us know how you did...!

Hey, I didn't even know they had these. I may just have to sign up to OLG's mailing list now too, lol. I'd be curious about the quality of play too. What are the buy ins usually like?

Thanks for posting this I have some sleuthing to do Smile

By the way, Seneca Casino just across the Niagara border is pretty slick. They're the only casino in North America that still give out free alcohol while gambling I think, lol.

Check: olg.ca

You should find something there. I had signed up for the newsletter by ticking a little box on a promo page olg had going,....one of those things that give you extra chances to win money or prizes by entering some code off tics like 6/49 or Super7.

The poker games at various olg casinos have fairly big prize money games or tourneys, but I can't say for sure. I deleted the one I got today when I didn't see any free contests... but with a little 'sleuthing' like you say...you'll find out,...or just make a few phone calls to either olg (number on back of lotto tics) or phone around to some olg casinos... Thumbs Up

Hi. Been awhile since I've posted. I have played in 3 tournaments at Brantford Casino. I found them to be run well. Tables are always being condensed as required. I always go for the 80 plus 20 or !00 plus 20 buy in. Prefer the deep stack tournaments. 15000 chips & 80 or 90 players. Last one I played was 100 + 20 with 90 players. Just shy of $2500 for winner with 11 places paid. Will definitely be going again. We have a group of 7 that usually go out for breakfast before we head up. Makes for a great day.

That sounds like a blast cave-dude...!!! Looks like you need about a full day to get in on any sort of tourney game...

Can you go and sit in on cash games and leave whenever you like....? Smile

Hey Demodawggy. Tournaments start at 11am. The longest we hung around was 6 1/2hrs. The 1 guy riding with us finished in 8th. As far as the cash tables go, yes you can leave at any time. You are allowed to call ahead & have your name put on the list for the stakes you want to play. Brantford is strictly limit hold em on cash tables. Not my cup of tea. Will play Fallsview or Point Edward as they have no limit hold em. We are thinking of trying a tournament at Pt Edward to see how they go.

I've been to all those casinos, ended up play limit at Brantford last time I was there, never understood why no NL.

$100 +$20 ouch 20% is a lot no? And at $80 + $20 Eye caramba, my ROI definitely isn't good enough to beat that rake, especially with no RB, lol.

OUCH dude... Shock That's a serious hit...

Maybe they're hoping that your 'enjJOYment' of the experience will distract from the draining of your wallet... lol...

I can see that the overhead of running a casino would be a lot more than an online outfit,...
...but still... Confused

I guess the Ontario Government has to pay the healthcare bill for treating all those obese people SOMEhow.... Aww crap!

Ha ha ha, yeah healthcare ain't free son. Agree though, fair to charge more than an online but that's a lot. Although I suppose a big tourney takes up a lot of floor space that they'd rather fill with slots . . .

I wonder if high fees would mean less skilled players as pro's wouldn't wanna pay?
