First lets look at the meaning of the word (from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).
Controversy is a state of prolonged public dispute or debate, usually concerning a matter of conflicting opinion or point of view. The word was coined from the Latin controversia, as a composite of controversus – "turned in an opposite direction," from contra – "against" – and vertere – to turn, or versus (see verse), hence, "to turn against."
The most applicable or well known controversial subjects, topics or areas are politics, religion and sex.[1][2][3] Other areas of controversy include history and philosophy. So being that this forum is a little boring( ooops controversy subject )/ Lets start a controversial subject! Anyone game ,( except of course pochui as he is just all about boobs and none of you argue that haha )?
Okay. I think we should consider blocking all travel from ebola infected regions, in order to save humanity from near extinction. The mortality rate is about 70% (even with access to modern medicine), and incubation time 29 days.

+1. No controversy there from me aswell. Imagine just the thought of ahving such a thing in your city. You would have fear of touching anything that's around you. And imagine if you're sick of something other than, and you get the news that someone is in the same hospital as you with ebola. I would chit myself

To me, being controversial (btw demo, I say CONtroversial... AND have relatively nice teeth - see?) is having an opinion that the vast majority of people do not agree with. That doesn't mean controversial opinions are wrong though, because as we ALL know... the vast majority of people are retards and their opinions should be avoided like a deadly disease that makes you bleed from your eyes, ears and arsehole.
Opinions only really become controversial when you try to force them on to the people who disagree.
But THE ONLY way to progress as a race is to do this. It was once incredibly controversial that women should be allowed to vote, people shouldn't keep others as slaves, black people aren't inferior to white people.... but all of these things are DEMONSTRABLY true.
Things that were once controversial, eventually become accepted IF THEY ARE CORRECT. And then something else will move into the controversy void left behind.

Not sure you're exactly right there yout. Controversy isn't "the opposite view of the majority of people " because you can have a view that nearly half the population agree with and it can still be controversial. I think controversy is a debate or a subject that gets people heated or divides people on a crucial level. One that can be used to provoke outrage or passion, togetherness or hatred.
For example the view that European films are better than Hollywood isn't particularly controversial except among film lovers and directors for most people accept there are arguments for both sides and it wouldn't offend them if someone had a difference of opinion. But the view that black people should be segregated is certainly likely to offend people and has frequently resulted in demonstrations and violence in the past. Obviously the controversial ideas I gave were more rational imo and from the response I guess not very controversial (i.e. they did not offend anyone to the extent that they were compelled to reply)
Also when a controversial debate does hit the world, it's not always the correct view that gets accepted. Politics aren't always progressive. It's too easy to claim we live in a developed society or that democracy and progress are the same thing but sometimes things get worse not better.

Funny that this subject is the being the whole point of debate here
To be controversial a subject must start a debate of thought and you will always have people on one side of the fence or the other and sometimes those that sit in-between with no real concept of the point of issue.

Not really. Again IMO. It all comes down to again where you sit on a subject. Please give some today subjects with a point so we can discuss. For example...Death Penalty,Teen Drinking,Bioethical Issues,Oil Crisis,Freedom of Religion or Belief........
