I normally go all in with QQ before Flop. Normally that works, but I am just playing for a few days now... so I guess I am just a noob. Big Smile

If the flop is A95 hearts and you have raised in early position and being cold called from BU, what are your ideas?
I prefer check/fold here Smile

PS: cash game

Don't agree to go all in. Well moving all in with QQ is very nice because you take the lead, but...
You've got a lot of chance the only one who will call you has at least an Ace, in wirst case AK.

It's a 50% / 50% gamble shot, and that's for casino's

ALl in every time with QQ??? definitely a n00b. You'll lose more in the long run that way.

I raise up QQ 3 or 4 x BB, if I like the flop [no A, K or big draws] then I'll attack and extract what I can with it but I'll always be aware of how others react to my bets, I'll fold them in a heart beat if I 'know' in my gut that I'm behind. Only donkeys cannot fold, even when they know.

You have to learn to lay down anything from 22, 6-7 to Q-Q, K-K, A-A!!

you had to raise all in if you were playin short stack strategy. The probabilitie of loosing with that hand was lower thatn winning. So the correct play is re-raising or going all in, it depends of your stack and his raise. Dont worry you will win next time!

With full stack i would say reraise and fold when he raises agen (if he is tight half pot bet and reraise is a good indicator your in trouble, he could have TT, JJ,.. tough). if he just calls his actions on the turn can be a big indicator of his hand.
When playing shortstacked it depends on your stack and his bet, if he bets 1$ and your stack is 3$ your either fold or push (i would probably push). If he bets like 0,50$ and your sitting with a 5$ stack i would play it asif im playing full stack.

quote: "Monsters? They are good to start with. But not for All-in. Unless you're 3 BB left or something"

bigstack is something else. but you play shortstack strategy...what you have 20-25 blinds? you dont have the blinds to bluff or to make pressure. your supposed to go all-in with big pockets as SSS

I think i laydown QQ every day 1 time maybe more.
Preflop, postflop, QQ is perfect hand, raise it big.

AA i find it hard to laydown, on a flush board i can laydown when i feel i am beat, but paired board hmmmm difficult, but these things dont happen so much cos i allways raise it big preflop.

Good thread Thumbs Up

QQ is a very hard hand to fold, but in some cases when it do not feel right i fold it.

I think all people have come across this one at sometime. I have had that happen to me several times too. Now when I decide to play QQ or similar pairs (larger pairs not small) I am more cautious and place value bets to see if the other player has a stronger hand. That way I don't chance my entire stack. But you play sss so that is just like playing the lottery, you are either going to win or loose, you lost so just move on and play the lottery again and maybe you will win the next time. The guy was probably watching your play and knew what to do or set up a trap.

If you know that opponent is very tight, you can only call with QQ for setmining purpose. If you don't hit Q by the turn you have to let it go if opponent bets. It's the correct TAG play, and I have to say that shortstack strategy is not poker. Don't play SSS.

I agree with you Blink

yea i do it sometimes depending on the bets before me and knowing tha game the others do.
but whne im in a game in one of those days that the higher card you getting is 7 i go all in with them
even if the whole table went all in before me (that for the tourneys Big Smile )
in cash games i try to hold myself of doing it Big Smile

don't mention q's to me....scenario down to my last $20 dollars...playing $10 buy in ....and by the luck of the poker gods i get AA....and go all in....only called once by a-q....yippee....flop comes q-q-8

ugh....buy in with my last ten dollars few dozen hands later - poker gods once again give me the rockets...called by one person who shows QQ.....altho a huge favorite i am not feeling very good...and the flop comes 10 - 8 - Q!!!!!! so in a period of 45 minutes my rockets lose to trips queens and puts my bankroll to zero....

Would you ever lay QQ?

I would never lay two Queens.....I have my manly pride to uphold Big Smile ..One maybe if I was drunk enouth and it look like a bird.... and I've been locked up in prison for a time ...but two Thumbs Down No never Evil

But of course if you live in Brighton laying a few queens is the norm.. Sad
