During the 2008 World Series of Poker there were a lot of poker players who were using Twitter while playing in a tournament.
As of this year it will no longer be allowed to use Twitter or any other blogging tools for that matter as a new rule has been implemented this year.
This is the rule that was implemented to stop players from Twittering while sitting at the poker tables:

I think it should be like this: * Talking in your phone while sitting at the table, forbidden at all times. * Texting while playing (in a hand), forbidden at all times. * Texting (or tweeting) while NOT in a hand - allowed.
I really don't see why you should not be allowed to use your phone, silently, when no one depends on your ability to react (as you're not playing the hand).

Even if a player is no longer in a hand he can give info about his hole cards.

True that. The only thing the other players in the hand could benefit from, is if they have eye contact with someone in the audience, so they can signal "good hand mucked" or something. I didn't think that one through

I cant use my mobile phone during exams becouse i could use it to cheat. So pro's not being alowed to use communication devises during a game makes sense to me.

Play real poker ... ban sunglasses and electronics at the table , the only thing the players should be allowed to touch is the cards and a water bottle during play

This a nice rule. We have got to have in mind that, as twitter could work as a matter of distraction of the players, other sites could work as tools helping players during the game, wich would be considered as using methods beyound the game to get successful, wich is not legal. This should be the main difference bettween online gaming and real table gaming!

Well that seems a bit odd as it would surly do a disadvantage to be twittering whilst playing? I suppose you could gain info from other tables but is that against the rules? if so why? I wouldn't like to be sat at a table where someone kept tapping away at a pc or blackberry.

Well i agree with prohibitting of any sort of comunications while on tournments because they player must be playing just alone and not getting info or using any sort of tools it´s player to play game and not player to player(comunity... etc...)

I was watching poker after dark and Phil Laak pulled his hood over his head and Kenny Tran said if it was a real tournament he could get the tournament directer to make him take it off lol.

i think the general rule should be no electronics at the table.esspecially in big tournament, you could cheat with your pro mates and take it down.corruption is everywhere.
