However, I was reading a magazine (poker mag) a couple months back that was doing a story on him, apparently started out playing online poker whilst at Uni, built a small roll of around $50 to around $200K over the holiday period, or something like that. But yeh, my understanding is he built his roll basically from scratch/ at least no more than avail to most people with a lousy job.
But I aren't 100%, just remembering an article I read. Doesn't interest me enough to look it up though, but if someone else wants too...

I love this thread. Durrrr is Marmite. Love how the durrrr fans get so wound up, truth is yes he is a great player, but he is far from being up there withe thoses who have stood the test of time. Now is durrrrs downswing and it will be intresting to see how he copes with it, yer every player is great when they are winning its how they handle losing that seperats the boys from the men, if he was to lose this way again then lose the challange around the same time he would be looking at being down 5-6 mill and might have to stay away from HS for a short while. Erm actually on High Stakes Poker hes been a walking accident.. Hes done terrible
All he is is someone prepared to throw lots of money into the pot and hope he sucks out.
Yes hes good at cash tables, but put him in tournaments and hes awful because his high betting just doesnt work, and the fact he won little or nothing at the WSOP backs that up.

His swings are hugher then any other player, but Ivey is more steady allround wise. Ferguson : also very steady bankroll player I don't understand why people think he is so uber imo. there are way better players then him, and time is running out on how he plays. Pros have seen enuff now
If U thnink calling a 500K all in on the turn on just a str8draw with no pair and sux out on the AA set who is the donk? Durrrr or the guy with a Set.
Personally, he shud stay away from NLHE and stick to omaha. He is not elite imho. Ivey, Brunson, Ungar, Chip Reese, , Helmuth(ye he has to be mentioned :s) they are elite coz they made a bigger achievement then just having huge cashswings.

His playing style gives him his severe swings and some how he's made it +ev to play that way. Many don't think it's a very admirable strategy especially if they're style is TAG as most can't stand LAG players, especially extreme ones like the man himself.
He certainly doesn't deserve the half s**t the haters spew about his game in the same way most kiss his arse about it imo.

Are you suggesting now that Stu Unger was a donk - the player that most top pros consider to be the best player of all time.
What happened to Stu was unbelievably tragic but it has no relevance to how good or bad he was at poker. He lost all his money gambling on stupid bets off the poker table and by shoving it up his nose.
On the poker table he was always winning even when he was off his face on drugs.
Durrr may have a similar super LAG style but that's where the similarity with Stu ends. There is no evidence that he does the same stupid things off the table that Stu did.
