I'll make this short... but I have to tell this one. I caught the poker bug a lil' over a yr ago. I finally made it online and hooked up w/P.S. I lost the initial deposit ( 50) the first night and had to wait 48 hrs until I could reload . Total lack of bankroll management skills. I made the next deposit w/a new plan. Less than 2 hrs into "it" I decided to register in the 4.00, 180 str s-n-g. I was doing ok, came back to 8500 in chips from being down to under 300 at one point. The blinds were 200/400, I was 2 off the button with a stack just under 9000. The new player, and chip leader, at our table is in the BB w/a stack of 15,750 or there about. I was dealt A-10 when the UTG raises, followed by a call from the player in the next seat. Next guy folds and I call the 1200 and watch the upcoming fold then CALL by the BTN. SB folds and the BB calls making the pot 6400 plus 900 in antes. WTF is going on? A really big and long HHhhmmmmmm... escaped my mind. Especially when the flop hit K Q Q ! What an interesting situation to be in? Although the BB was the only one to have me covered, and everyone else as well, I was bound and determined to see 4th st. So the betting begins w/the BB checking, no bueno, and the UTG shoving all-in, a remaining 785 or so. The nest guy calls and I call. The pot is boiling pretty good, now when the BB raises enough to put me all in. I have a remaining 5500. The player on my right moves all-in. OMG... There's a lot of cheddar in the middle and I'm a card away from a royal flush. I've never made a royal before. I mean without wild cards or something... But my tournament life was at stake, here. If I fold and that J of hits I'm gonna be sick. Well, if I don't call I still have plenty of chips to... ahhhh fk it, call. I did more than pray at that moment, I envoked spirits I never thought existed. The BTN called his all-in as well and we're off. Everybody is on their backs and the Bb is out front w/K's over Q's. That is the hand I have to beat. A 9 hits on the turn, helping no one. It all comes down to the all-mighty river. Like a bomb sent from the poker godz themselves the lone J shatters the table and a pot of over 50,000 comes ebbing my way... The chat room lit up in that brilliant blue, mostly caps. In the middle were lines in a faded green, the P.S. railbird colors. When I stood up the chair leapt backards, smashing into my dog, I was in shock. I never thought I would come and it did. I was the massive chip leader after that hand, building my stack to over 130K, for a while. After 5 hrs of play, I was knocked out in 3rd. It didn't matter, I had made the best hand and the biggest pot of the tourney on an all-in bet from the flop when I didn't have to... for it was MY defining poker moment. Got one?
Unfortunately althought its a nice story and i dont wanna rain on your parade but i am almost certain my view will be compounded by others if u get replies....WHAT THE HELL WERE U DOIN IN THE POT IN THE FIRST PLACE ???
Nice royal flush. Amateur play at best.
Sorry for the critique but my A/10 woulda hit the muck so fast - and i wouldnt have even been in the flop so i wouldnt have give a flying f**k about 4th street - once its folded its ancient history. God ive just read it again and it does sound bad - am sorry.

I folded a strfl today, well, would have been a strfl. Villain made a good turn bet, 1 caller, I folded, as I was beat, river was the 1 outer I needed. Good bet, good fold, by me.
Lucky happens in poker. Not very consistently though.

Are you kidding he got 40% ROYAL FLUSH
(contains irony)
Not really for the Royal Flush, but more then 40% for the Flush

So I am saying Jewcifer did everything correct
Right. I have done a bit of research on this - i ran the numbers thru a good odds calculator - with more than generous hand ranges ( by generous i mean not that many ) and our royal flush dude comes out at about 32 ish percent after the flop ( 4 way ). So with the money involved etc the call was prob correct ( he had correct odds - just about ).
My point being tho - after a sizeable raise and a call - calling with ur A/10 s , i am sorry - is a def no - no. Like i said i wouldnt have been in the hand to see the flop. So sorry Paldcs mate in my opinion he didnt do everythin correct at all - as he shouldnt have even seen flop. He was gambling, not playin poker.

Thanx for the replies, fellow MOBSTERS. It seems everyone who replied missed the point, here. If you read the correctly spaced text you will notice a question being posed for the reader. It's also in the title of the thread. What was your defining poker moment? Hmmm... guess I'm the only one w/a killer story. LOL! You fuckers are silly. That's what I love about poker players, overlook the obvious and start number crunching. I WAS gambling when I made that call. I forgot to mention that I hit the clock and called between 1 and 2 seconds. Took 58 secs. to finally go FUK IT! I would like to thank mattel for the acknowledgement that I was, at that moment, gambling. Thanx, man. Hindsight's a mutha, eh? Get over yourselves, people... it's just cards.

No fun, its my income. But like I said in my previous post. I get hands like these often enuff.
But I do remember one Royal on a 6 Handed table, where everyon pushed all in postflop. I was at the button, so last to act, I flopped the stone cold nuts ( Royal)
Madness at my tables coz 5 people went all in. , sets, flushes, Fulls on the turn etc etc.
Payout for me? => 750$ aprox. Its rare ur royal gets paid off if U flop a wet board, but this looked like it was almost rigged

Liv ftw
Hey, man. I really didn't expect this kinda "recoil", pfft... Believe me, I'm serious about winning THESE DAYZ, lol. If I wanna gamble now I'll go play omaha, Yeah, man when I typed "just having some fun" I meant the thread itself. I'm totally aware that a bunch of players on-line are grinding for rent and dinner and etc. I, one day myself, hope to join your ranks. That tourney that I wrote the thread about was played Thanksgiving weekend of 08'. On Sunday night, almost midnight by my watch, 11:50-ish cen. yank time. It was my second night online ever. Actually I had less than 6 logged hrs, if I'm not mistaken. I was just stoked about that hand, then. I would wake up thinking about it, LOL! But seriously, this is my first forum/poker community that I've been associated with and thought I would share, what I like to think of, my best hand/situation/planets-n-stars alligned moment. That's all... So, where do you like to play at? I play at a few yank sites. Mostly over at cake and merge skins. Over at merge (Carbon, Reefer, Poker Nordica to name a few) I've been playing under the name PuffinStuff. Must warn ya, I'm still up and coming so I play the "toes-bleed stakes" Come see me. Oh yeah, I'm LoneRuss70 at U.B. Hey, don't you have a blog or something? L8R

First do you think I was joking....second perhaps you should claim your school money back atleast those from the math leesons
@OP
You are right the thread got kinda OT.
Defining moment.....hmm hard to say but probably when I started making +EV decisions instead of situational feeling.
Btw It's your gambling attitude that keeps poker alive. If everyone was nitty we would just be exchanging money and paying the casino for it. So yes it's "just" cards....but for real money.
