Gus Hansen's never-ending nightmare

Gus Hansen had a terrible year at Full Tilt's nosebleed tables in 2009. At the end of the year he had lost $5 million dollars and was far the biggest loser. It can be very hard to get back in business and believe in your own game after such a nightmare year, but somehow Gus managed to keep a cool head and started off 2010 in the best possible way by winning about $2 millions.

However, the winning streak didn't last for long and in the last couple of months he has lost most of what he won. Last weekend was especially tough on Gus Hansen as he ended up losing almost $400k within a timeframe of 24 hours. Since 2007 Gus Hansen has now lost about $7 million dollars.

The question now is how long he can afford to play high stakes and lose like this before his entire bankroll is gone. Personally I think Gus Hansen has to take very good look at his own game and play lower stakes until he finds the way back to his game again, but somehow I have the feeling that he has no plans whatsoever to do something like that.

ive noticed on the high stake poker show he has change his game play,
i mean he doesnt play his 67 connecters no more ,his loose play use to be great,
i hope this is not the beging of the end of gus, just needs abig tourney win to get him back up there Smile

Ahh, Doyle had 10 years of downswing in poker. I thinK Gus can manage with a few and then start playing again. Hes more into other things like Backgammon and Tennis, than in poker.
He should focus to one thing at a time if he wants to be successful again.
But what Ive read from his blogs is backgammon here and tennis in about 20 minutes and if ive got time ill play poker meanwhile.

If he treats poker bad, he will get punished for it also Blink

He is very clever and I'm sure he will bounce back.

He is a very good tourney player, but i guess most other high stakes pros have an edge on him in cash games. So without rich fish like Guy at the tables he will start to bleed money.

Every poker player has his/her downs i think if he toughs it out he will make it out this slump, he has always been one of my idols that i look up too as he has a unique style of play. And i don't think he drop to lower stakes at all he will ride through the rough waves and end up coming out a stronger player.

He really does need to get back to ABC poker for a little while, at least until he finds the leak(s) in his game and makes the appropriate adjustments. It seems fairly obvious that several other high stakes players have a strong read on his playing style and are getting paid at his expense.

Yeah. I read his book, and I loved his style of play. And the way he writes, really funny.
Crazy stuff, but it worked.
I won a 5.000 man tourney just after reading his book.
Just raising, almost never calling, and playing a lot of unusual combinations.
I lost that style quickly afterwards, but it seemed to work.

I really hope he comes back.
Maybe it´s like Kristan says, he´s into too much other stuff.

ah poor gus needs to manage his bankroll a bit better and also losing 400k in 24hours you couldnt even spend that much in 24hours well i couldnt unless i pissed it against the wind like gus

I never liked Gus Hansen's play. I watched him on TV, he is aggressive pusher and fish with lots of luck.
