Inaugural Triton Poker HKD$250,000 Short Deck Event in Montenegro won by Phil Ivey

Phil Ivey is back on the live tournament poker tables, and he's already on a roll! This recent USD$600k win of Ivey is actually his first cash ever since he stopped being active (on the live tournament scene) around January 2016. Back in January 4, 2016, he finished 5th at the $200,000 NLHE event of WPT National in the Philippines for US$656,500.

The 2018 Triton Super High Roller Series Montenegro kicked off this weekend at the wondrous Maestral Resort & Casino located in Budva, Montenegro.

Among one of its events, the inaugural live Short Deck tournament has been won by none other than American poker pro Phil Ivey, who has just returned to the live poker scene and made a solid comeback by triumphing against Dan "Jungleman" Cates on a heads-up match, thereby winning the event for HKD$4,749,200 (or approx. USD$604,977).

It was definitely a battle between two poker masters and in the end, it was sound strategy and sheer determination that allowed Ivey to stand firm from a 1-4 chip deficit at the beginning of the heads-up match and progress through to defeat his opponent and bring home the lion's share of the event's prize pool worth $14,347,200.

Short Deck Ante Only (NLHE), the first-ever tourney of its kind on the live poker circuit, has managed to entice a total of 61 players to join. The ante-only format featured a buy-in of HKD$250,000 (around US$31,850) with the top 9 finishers getting a sure payout.

After having won the opening event, the poker legend has been quickly making plans to participate on the other events at the high-stakes poker fest. At the winner's interview, Ivey stated, "I feel pretty good, and it's always good to have a great start."

Aside from the sweet payout of HKD$4,749,200 (or approx. USD$604,977) for winning the first event of the tournament circuit, the 41-year-old Ivey also has become the first player to win a live event of this game type which has become quite popular in the high-stakes cash game scenario in Asia.

As for Dan Cates, he has placed runner-up on this one for HKD$3,199,000 (approx. US$407,505). In fact, he placed 3rd on the 2017 Triton Super High Roller series HKD$1 Million NLHE event for $USD1,009,470, so this year's finish is still a great addition to his poker portfolio.

short deck poker, hmmm I guess all variations are a good thing, since they allow you to break the monotony of doing the same things over and over again. now when you play a game with changed rules you get a heck more of adrenaline and excitement

Some how i never thought will see him playing poker again.
It seems all of his "schemes" of getting millions too fast failed,
and he is back at playing poker again.
I dont think he is a player missed by many in the poker world Smile

Phil Ivey is a very good player and he had to come back to play at the live tables because he lost a lot of money in these processes with the two casinos Borgata and the other from England. He managed a nice tournament in Montenegro and a good amount after taxes.

I have not played either, and I think I'm not ready to play such a tournament either. At first glance it seems that you have to be more aggressive, and the projects are very important.
It is played eliminating the cards from 2 to 5. I honestly did not know this format of poker. Surely soon they will be implemented in a well-known poker room.
Good tournament of Ivey, how nice it is to win it like that, go losing 1 to 4, and turn it around.

@peronibar cards from 2-5 are removed from deck... flush is stronger than full house... that was rule... in other cases when they play short deck it is usualy set stronger than str8 also, but in this case it wasnt...

I did not know that color won the full in that type of tournament. Or was it only in that tournament specifically? I can get confused and think I have the best hand, since I'm not used to playing those tournaments. I would lose pretty fast, I suppose.
Anyway it would be nice to implement and try it. You never know, it can be good.
Although I would never play for that sum of money.
 CALICUL19/05/2018 17:01:16 GMT
All the fans of this poker game should watch how does Phil Ivey play. Is a very good professional player and i think he's respected in this industry. You can learn many things from him and to use them in the important moments. His style is very good as long as he has won many bracelets.
