Finnish Teen who Stole from Maltese Online Casino Sentenced

Remember the Finnish teen who stole from a Maltese online casino? Well, on September 3 Monday, he has been convicted on charges of aggravated fraud as a minor in Häme District Court for having stolen hundreds of thousands of Euros after discovering an unknown glitch on the casino site between April and May 2017.

The teen got a 20-month suspended sentence. The court also ordered that he pay back the €132,000 he stole plus the amount of €3,000 for gambling legal fees.

The father got a 5-month suspended sentence and ordered to repay €14,500 which had been transferred to his account, while the mother received a 60-day suspended sentence for aggravated money laundering charges. The court also ordered the mom to pay back the €2,300 and forfeit the motorcycle worth more than €5,000 which was allegedly bought using the stolen money.

Apparently the teen got off luckily because of the fact that he was a minor (16 years old) during the time the crimes were committed.

In the previous sources, it was originally reported that the scammed amount was over €250,000, but the teen was ordered to repay €132,000 and €3,000 to cover the gambling operator's legal fees.

I think that he can count himself very fortunate that he didn't go to jail on this occasion. I really hope that he learns from this and doesn't do anything like this ever again

Not to surprised that the teen got off that easily, as he was still a minor at the time. But more about the parents. I expected that they would be the ones that would get serious sentences. In the end they escaped with a black eye.

he had luck with this, because of his age and now bigger problem will be for all of them to back this amount, which is big for them!probably they will do this for many years!cant tell that he knewt with 16 years what can this bring to him and family!

Well justice was done, but in the same way the casino lost money, it was expected the result hopefully serve for the page to solve the problems it has

I think it is good decision form court to order to pay back money that is steal and some small amount for charge and then suspended sentence because now he cannot do more crimes or he go to jail for real, good lesson to him

And this is another example that the legal system in almost each and every country is bad.
No one got an appropriate sentence.
They got away with it, the whole family should have got, something way more strict than that, plus they have been ordered to repay, just a portion of the actual amount
In other words no penalty for it, plus they are keeping more than 100k euro

I'm glad because he did not get the prison sentence. This Finnish teen, received a punishment and he deserves this thing, his parents same. There is a discrepancy in favor of this family, between the 250,000 euro who were stolen by that method, and the final amount which this family has to pay, but is the judge's decision...

this is very serious crime and he could finish with much worser punishment, especially because his parents knewt everything!his luck was only in his age,but who know will he learn anything from this!now its question how they will turn this amount!

I think it is normal this punishment, because this young man and his parents, they are not recidivists and the boy was minor, when he did this thing. I do not think it is necessary that this child's life to be destroyed by a brutal decision and a heavy punishment with jail.

TBH this is mostly in line with most of the northern/scandinavian countries justice system. They do not like giving out harsh punishments and top of that most of their prisons are looking like summer camps.

If i move to Finland and i steal money or something else, i think i will get a punishment as in Eastern Europe? or maybe not. Now depends on their laws and how correct the judges there are. Judges people respect their profession in nordic countries like Finland but with people of another nation i do not know.

Depends on the judge or what kind of crime you did there IMO, they could even order you to fullfill your sentence in your origin country - Romania - if they have some legal contract about cases similar to yours with the country in question.
But trust me, if you want to live the 'life of crime' you should definitely start to do it in either Norway or Sweden...

this is not just a child and he knew lot of things about internet, hacker things and everything about it!but whats most important his parent didnt do anything, when he gave them money and they spent on few things!
in this case good thing is that he can give back money and everything will be good, its not like that he killed somebody and that you cant fix it!but somehow I think that he will do again something like this in few years!

I do not want to live in Norway or Sweden because i do not like the climate there. I also do not want to start a life of crime, because i do not want to go into jail, neither there nor in any other country. I have no criminal record, i did not do anything wrong and i think a judge from Finland it's worse with a stranger than with a compatriot. I'm sure most of the Nordic or the West judges have a certain nervousness on the east Europeans, especially the Romanians because of the gypsies. It's best to be honest not an offender. Smile

I did not say you aee anything you mentioned above, but - if you want to be - your future carrier should start out in the scandinavian countries as far as rehabilitation and prison systems go 'cuz they are above anyone else handling antisocial elements within their society.

It was just an explanation about my life, my decisions with my plans and decisions of nordic judges in the case of some east europeans. I know nordic judges are not bad people but with people outside the country are a bit more severe. Only personal opinions and now, i do not know if they offer the same punishments for all or not. Confused
