Finnish poker player Aku Joentausta didn't let go of his lead during Day 3 of the Main Event when the field was narrowed down from 170 to 56 players. The young Finn played extremely well and it almost seemed like he took home every single pot. He will bring 1,039,000 chips today, ahead of the only other player with a seven figure stack: Emil Ohlsson, from Sweden, with 1,011,000.

Ilari Sahamies is not done yet - won another $182k yesterday!

Tags: finland, high stakes, ilari sahamies, pokerstars theo j, pot limit omaha
Posted on 18 July 2012 by "T".

The Finnish poker pro Ilari Sahamies has been running extremely well in the past few days. Last Saturday he scored a $367k profit, and two days later he walked away with a $444 profit in just under 600 hands. After these two sessions, Ilari was up about $50,000 on PokerStars this year. However, it doesn't seem like the winning streak is over yet as he won another $181k last night...

Most of these winnings came from a two-hour session on a $200/$400 Pot Limit Omaha table against regulars such as Bernsden12, Phisherman32 & Theo J. In total, the Finnish poker guru played for about four hours yesterday, and he took down the 3rd and 4th biggest pots of the day on PokerStars.

PokerStars Gets EU License

Tags: finland, finland, pokerstars.eu, sverige, sweden, tax free
Posted on 15 February 2012 by "T".

Since February 13th Swedish and Finnish players will be moved from PokeStars.COM to PokerStars.EU software. The reason for this is that PokerStars has gotten a license in Malta (where many other betting companies also have their license), which makes all winnings tax free. There is no difference when it comes to tournaments, cash games etc, so players from Finland and Sweden can still take part in, for example, Sunday Million and play against the same players as on PokerStars.COM.

How will it work?
Once you log on to your PokerStars account you will receive detailed instructions and your current balance, cash balance, FPPs, VIPs, and VIP status, will automatically be moved over. And once the software update is done you are good to go again!

HighStakes: "Ziigmund" cleaned out Antonius' account

Tags: finland, high stakes, ilari sahamies, patrik antonius
Posted on 29 December 2011 by "T".

Patrik Antonius and Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies, both from Finland, played an action-filled (but short) heads-up the other day that thousands of people watched on PokerStars. Sahamies, who's one of the biggest winners this year, took the command almost straight away and totally dominated against his fellow country men. In fact, he took every single cent from Antonius account - about 190k US dollars - and the game was over.

Well, not for Sahamies. Instead of enjoying the win and eating some Christmas turkey, Sahamies continued playing at PokerStars nosebleed tables. Unfortunately things didn't go so well from there on but still he got away with a profit of about $144k for the day.

Ziigmund has gained some weight

Tags: finland, Seiska, weight, ziigmund
Posted on 14 October 2011 by "T".

Lately there have been rumors that Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies has gained a lot of weight during the summer. The Finnish tabloid magazine Seiska even published one of Ziigmund's Facebook profile pictures on its website a while ago, a picture which confirmed that Ziigmund indeed had gained some weight. However, according to the magazine, Ziigmund's girlfriend Elina doesn't seem too bothered with his rounded appearance.

This is what an anonymous person wrote on Seiska's website a while ago...
"Ilari knows how to make fun of himself. He calls himself ´Fat roe sack´ and is very descriptive about his unhealthy and fattening diet"

In case you missed it: Viktor "Isildur1" Blom and Ilari "Ilari FIN" Sahamies battled it out at PokerStars nosebleed tables last Sunday. The session went Isildur1's way as he managed to take just about $1 million from the Finnish poker pro. It was a horrible day for Sahamies, and it didn't take long before he commented on the session in his blog - "BIGGEST TILT EVER.."

High Stakes: Ziigmund denies to have lost millions of dollars this year

Tags: finland, high stakes, ilari sahamies, ziigmund
Posted on 02 December 2010 by "T".

According to Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies latest blog update, it seems like he hasn't lost as much money as many poker sites have claimed in the past few months. We have heard of figures between 2-5 million dollars, but according to Ziigmund, who partly admits that he has lost a lot of money because of playing bad, he has lost about $1 million dollars. If this is true, it probably means that Ziigmund has been successful in different live games and maybe he's also playing with fake aliases on different poker sites?

"This year hasnt been as good it should be,I think Im down like a million...and Gus...dont say I should be more losing.I think I have been unlucky but I have played very bad also....in drunk...in hangover...and tilting etcetc...now I take small break and come back to smaller games...I try :) Lets see what happens," Ziigmund writes in his latest blog update.

Ziigmund: "I can't win a ******* pot"

Tags: finland, high stakes, ilari sahamies, ziigmund
Posted on 11 November 2010 by "T".

The Finnish poker pro Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies started 2010 with a few winning sessions and it looked very good for a while. But suddenly the poker gods turned against him and since then he has lost big almost every single month.

Last night Ziigmund took on Daniel "jungleman12" Cates in Pot Limit Omaha session, which only lasted 300 hands. Ziigmund lost $300,000 in this session and couldn't hold back his anger after they stopped playing. This is what he wrote in the chat.

HighStakes: Good week for Finnish poker players

Tags: durrr, finland, full tilt poker, Ilari Sahamies, martonas, patrik antonius, tom dwan
Posted on 02 September 2009 by "T".

Last week was a great week for some high stakes players from Finland. However, the most successful of those were Patrik Antonius who won over a million dollars, and his fellow countryman, Ilari Sahamies, who won close to half a million dollars. Most of the money Antonius won came from the American pro Tom "durrr" Dwan. Tom "durrr" Dwan came to be the biggest loser last week with around $900,000 lost. But as we all know, that is not an amount that Tom Dwan will cry so much over.

Another poker player that lost a lot of money last week was "Martonas", or the "unknown Swede" as many people call him. It seems like "Martonas" has given up playing on the highest stakes at Full Tilt poker. Because lately he can be found on the lower stakes at Full Tilt. Probably he has realized that he can't afford the enormous swings, or just think its easier making money on the lower stakes?
