Cloudbet, the leading crypto-based sportsbook and casino, has launched the first edition of its new series, Cloudbet Snapshot: Regional Crypto Betting Trends, offering a comprehensive look at how users across the globe interact with major sporting events. The debut report covers data from August 5 to September 4, 2025, analyzing engagement across 12 key competitions - a curated selection from the thousands of betting markets hosted on the platform daily.
The snapshot offers a rare glimpse into regional preferences during a high-traffic betting window that coincided with the kickoff of European football seasons, the US Open, and the MLB playoff push.
Set within the context of a global online gambling market valued at $87.69 billion in 2025, and projected to grow to $153.57 billion by 2030 (11.9% CAGR, according to Grand View Research), the findings show how regional preferences are shaping the future of crypto betting. While soccer continues to dominate, emerging regional favorites such as UFC, MLB, and Argentina's Liga Profesional de Fútbol (LPF) are gaining ground.
"We took each region's top five competitions and built a composite set to show where local favorites overlap or diverge globally. This snapshot gives a clean view of how bettors engage across regions, without drowning in the thousands of markets we host every day," said John, a Cloudbet spokesperson.
Soccer remains Supreme, but other Sports gain Traction
Soccer held a commanding 57.1% share of global betting activity within the sampled period, led by the Premier League (15.57%), La Liga (12.78%), and the UEFA Champions League (10.08%). A high-stakes London derby between Chelsea and Crystal Palace stood out as a top event, showcasing football's consistent global pull.
Tennis also registered strong numbers, with the US Open (men's and women's singles combined) accounting for over 20% of total activity. Meanwhile, MLB drew 9.73%, with classic rivalries like Yankees vs. Red Sox driving engagement well beyond North American audiences.
Regional Highlights
- Latin America: Local allegiances were clear, with the Copa Libertadores (8.98%) and Liga Profesional de Fútbol (8.53%) commanding strong support. Surprisingly, MLB also performed well at 10.89%.
- North America: MLB led the charge with 22.78%, followed by the return of college football (10.62%) and UFC (10.21%). Notably, the bout between Du Plessis and Chimaev rivaled soccer, which saw a relatively modest 10.42% engagement in the region.
- Asia & Middle East: Soccer remained the top draw, with Serie A (9.75%) among the most bet-on leagues. UFC also gained traction here, reaching 5.98%, signaling a rising interest in combat sports.
- Europe: Football stayed dominant but was complemented by notable interest in the UEFA Europa Conference League (9.93%) and US Open Women's Singles (10.03%), pointing to growing diversification in betting choices.

Figure note: The chart presents a composite view of the top 12 competitions across regions (Latin America, Asia/Middle East, North America, and Europe), reflecting a blend of local favorites rather than a global ranking.
Argentina's Liga Profesional surprises with Global Appeal
Among the standout stories in the report is the unexpected global presence of Argentina's Liga Profesional de Fútbol (LPF). While securing 8.53% in Latin America, the league also posted respectable numbers in Europe (3.59%), Asia/Middle East (3.07%), and North America (3.06%). Analysts point to its favorable time zones and consistent match schedules as contributing factors.
By contrast, the Copa Libertadores, while impactful at major moments, didn't have the same day-to-day presence outside Latin America. For instance, it accounted for 1.53% of activity in North America during the period.
Cloudbet spokesperson John said:
"Bettors don't switch off when the last whistle blows in London or Madrid. They roll straight into Buenos Aires or Montevideo, because those games are still live, the streams are cheap, and the action feels real. It's the same reason a Yankees-Red Sox series or a UFC title fight can pull people in from outside North America - rivalries and timing matter as much as the sport itself."
Methodology Overview
Scope: 12 competitions selected from the top five in each region during the period of August 5 - September 4, 2025.
Metric: Based on the share of unique bettors per competition within the sample, not total betting volume sitewide.
Timing: Captures betting behavior around key seasonal events including European football launches, MLB playoff chases, and the US Open.
Exclusions: Other available sports like the NBA, NFL, and smaller leagues were excluded, likely due to off-season timing.
