A recent survey conducted by the Swedish Gambling Authority reveals that three-quarters of Swedes have engaged in monetary gambling over the past year.
The Public Opinion Survey, an annual study by the Swedish Gambling Authority, aims to assess the gambling behaviors of the Swedish population. This year's survey was conducted in November 2024 in collaboration with the research firm Enkätfabriken, with over 1,600 respondents taking part.
Key findings from the survey include:
- 71% of Swedes reported gambling for money in the past 12 months, a stable figure compared to previous years.
- 33% of all gamblers engage in gambling activities on a weekly basis, showing no change from the prior year.
- 84% of participants have taken part in lotteries and number-based games, maintaining its status as the most popular form of gambling.
- 71% of gamblers agree, to some extent, that gaming companies are responsible for addressing gambling-related issues.
- 66% of participants are aware of the option to self-exclude from gambling through Spelpaus.se, with slightly lower awareness reported among women.
These results provide a comprehensive snapshot of current gambling trends and awareness in Sweden.
