this is getting so stupid now,................just ban every1 and no 1 can conplain.. about silly post and polls.... hang on just stop every1 coming to this site that will sort everythink out...

but to the peolpe who want to make a differents in this world , stop moaning about silly things, try helping the people who have no food no homes clothes, in stead of debating about all this crap, and your time and effort could go towards some think worth bothering about.......
at the end of the day no one is getting hurt, just people think on here they have power to do something just to make them feel there worth living and they wanna make a change,

well like the late jacko said start with the man in the mirror if you wanna make a change

Big Smile

i think if anyone doesn't break site rules they should be allowed to express their opinions and some threads might be interesting to some people and not to some.
as for polls, i think off topic polls shouldn't give points, that would solve the problem.

Hey hey i want my points from so cool polls out there Tongue.
Anyway it would be sad without points Tongue my math say it will ruin my happiness Tongue
Anyway there could be limit to the polls which pay like with posts.
3 polls / day or something....
To be honest i like some stupid polls and to vote in it... if u will make them down (nearly every) u will see u will miss them after some time.

For now, I will try to decrease points for voting in polls from 5 points to 2 points. We want the points paid for poll voting to be so little that people doesn't care about them, while still awarding our users one way or the other. It seems 5 points was too much and caused a lot of really, really weird polls being created.

We'll stay at 2 points for voting until further notice - maybe we can increase it a bit after things start to cool down or we find something else.

Have u thought that maybe stupid polls will increase as faster as points decrease? Now people who still want to create polls only for points will have to post 3 stupid polls instead of only one. In my humble opinion ...

Hopefully they won't be that stupid Smile But you can't create more than 1 poll for every 24 hours, but I'll take a look into how many polls each user has created and compare the numbers in a few weeks.

i think the close button is the best solution only older members could use it and logicaly olders members are the serious ones so the old treads, the stupid ones, the question ask and the problems solves would all disapear like magic

I agree with pmgignac, it's better solution. With 2 points interesting people may don't show goodwill to vote

How would you define "old members", so we can determine who should be given (automatic) access to vote for the closing of a poll or not?

Top20 posters? Just a thought................ Agree

I don't know if that would encourage too much spamming to reach the top 20?

Otherwise we should try and come up with a simple algoritm so that the amount of posts you have, will count as "weight" when voting to close the thread. Then you could also vote NOT to close it to bring down the weight. The thing is, what "weight" is needed to actually close the thread then?

I think it should go on a few factors, post count (+500) A bit steap but think its mainly the PPL who use the forum who are getting upset, not the viewers, passers by. And I cant see anyone wanting to spam 500 posts.
Reputation (some sites have reputation bars next to username, here its Thumbs Up Thumbs Down count)
Fequancy of use.
And judgement by yourself. Thumbs Down

Sort of like this, sorry for the crude drawing.
But once bars reach a certin level they get the weight.

Yeh cud be a good one, seems to me thats a littl hard to program, but hey i am just a noob in that so dunno Agree

With weight u mean this right?: (example)

doomdy (4370)
B1gfoot (3807)
shokaku (3535)
M3turbo (2644)
GeneYuss (2591)
dunotra (2193)
thefodz (1788)
dlkiv (1431)
intentcity4 (1371)
xxxitaliaxxx13 (1340)
ect..........

So doomdy has 43 weight, B1gfoot 38, shokaku 35, Turbo 26 ect.....
So lets say i vote NO, shokaku vote NO, dlkiv vote NO, u have weigth 82 NO, so maybe weight 100 NO means close it? So everybody can vote NO, so in this example 82 plus a couple off small regulars and poll is closed?

Just a thought............. Agree
Maybe also nice put a counter with the poll, so no NO's means 0, and if its close too 100 everybody can see it, just a thought..................... Agree

i don't think reducing points for polls is going to solve the problem.
did the amount of stupid polls decrease after points were decreased to 5 ? i don't think so..
the only thing i see reducing, is the no of votes.
best thing would be to stop points for off topic polls and regulars get the right to move a poll to off topic/close it.
as long as there is no distinction between stupid and good polls this thing will continue.

The problem with saying "100 means close" is that we all get more posts, so eventually maybe you and b1gfoot will have 5000 posts each, so your vote each will be 50 and just the two of you will be able to close a thread, without the saying of anybody else Smile

Please explain the bars again - I think I'm in another line of thought, cause I feel like I'm missing out on an important part, to understand your idea Smile

Well thats not a hard 1 imo, simply start with 100/125 or 150 wot u want and set it as a % so 80 votes/100 is 80% when 100% is reaches poll or thread is closed. If BRM feel the need to higher the standards cos 100% is too easy reached then make an update from 125 too 150 votes ect.

Just my opinion..... Agree

Edit: I like the reputation idea from B1gfoot, dunno how to implement but still intresting Smile

Edit2: Btw Tony, a top15 wud be nice, so u can see who is on the side-line for making it into the top10 coming time, i mean there is plenty off space at the bottom right?, even a top20 is doable imo. Just a thought............ (off-topic that is) Agree

Lollll ur fast Tony Top20 that is Blink

I think I would prefer something rather "automatic" so that it follows the flow of the forum, regarding "weight" when closing threads - otherwise we would have to remember to see if we need to update the "points" necessary for a thread to close.

Yes I made it top 20.

Well I was thinking kinda automatic with the bars.
OK ill try explain.
Each bar has its own set values, so say reputation could be 100 Thumbs Up to fill, same for outher bars but obviously using outher set values.
Once each bar reaches a given level, say reputation 60%, post count 30% and Frwq. 60%, then that user would get rights to "close" polls. (or a power value to close thread)
Ie, poster 1 might be give power 25%(for say rep 47% post 62% and freq 62%) and poster 2 gets 75%(rep 84% post 86% freq 89%) between them they could shut a poll down.
Not sure iv explaind it well, hope you catch the drift.
IMO this would stop bad posts as PPL woujld want to get a good rep, visit more and proably post more, hence id probaby keep the post bare value low to avoid spam.

You could also use the bars in outher ways..EG,
A poster with low values get 2 point per vote in poll or 5 points for post in forum, whilst a poster with high values would get 5 points for poll votes and 10 for posts.
