I lived in Singapore 4 years. Difference between there and Ireland is:
In Ireland it rains for 10 months, with a couple of dry days in between. In SE Asia, it rains for 26 min and it´s WARM rain. Like taking a hot shower.

------------ Frozen waterpipes sucks so much, throw a heating element close to the pipes is the only thing one can do ...

Uh oh! I guess I kind of deserve this for my thread earlier this week!
Environment Canada's Official Weather Warnings Metro Montréal - Laval 11:32 AM EST Thursday 24 February 2011 Winter storm warning for Metro Montréal - Laval continued
10 to 15 cm of snow is expected for the Montréal region beginning Friday morning. Other regions could receive up to 25 cm.
Snow combined with strong winds will greatly reduce visibilities in blowing snow.
A low pressure system from Colorado will track over New England Friday, reaching the Gulf of St Lawrence during the day on Saturday.
Significant snowfall amounts, strong winds and blowing snow will affect Southern Quebec beginning Friday morning. Depending on the system's track, other regions east of the warning areas could be affected by the storm later on Friday.
The storm is expected to reach the Eastern Gaspé Peninsula and the Lower North Shore Friday evening into Saturday; heavy snow, high winds and blowing snow are expected.

Well, the big storm missed us (mostly) and tomorrow 11 degrees and rain! Anyway, just thought I would post another way to beat the winter blahs. My son got seriously into basketball last summer, the first sport I have ever seen him really work hard at and get into. Anyways, his coach through some connections made available to all the players and their families free tickets to go see a university basketball game last night and we went. Quite the show! We all came out of that with a smile on our face. I had forgotten how hard players at this level play, really giving it their all. I've gone to see minor league hockey games too and seen the same level of effort. On the other hand, I have seen major league baseball, hockey and football games where the effort at times was, shall we say lacking. Cheap thrills. Even if we paid for the tickets they were $7 each. As soon as the snow is gone the next purchase is a full sized b-ball net.
