SD means that for an average player (even many of the greats) it is better to be "lucky" than good!!! By "lucky" I mean to be on the positive/winning end of the bell curve.

I resurrected this thread to make a point - one way to mitigate variance and standard deviation is to take advantage of any deposit bonus and rake-back offered by the site - and that is what www.bankrollmob.com is all about (at least the bonus and free money part).

A very intresting read... I have improved my game out of sight by as you would say " looking at the holes in your own game " I just had my best finish in Pokerstars Open League finishing 51st out of
