How is Omaha played?

Each player is dealt 4 pocket cards, face down. After the first betting round, 3 community cards are dealt on the board, the flop. Then comes another round of betting and another community card, the turn. After the 3rd betting round comes the final community card, the river, followed by the last round of betting. Like in every variant, the community cards are available to every player. In every betting round players have the following possibilities: Check, Call, Bet, Raise or Fold.

When a fullring table is fully occupied, or in other words, in a ten-player game, a total of 40 cards from the deck are dealt. Since there are also five community cards that are, and a card deck contains 52 cards, there are only 7 unused cards at the end of a hand.

Because the game is played with 4 cards rather than 2, there are a lot more possible combinations than in Texas Hold'em. Naturally, this means that one can have many more outs as well. While the biggest number of possible outs in hold'em is 21 (straight flush draw with overcards) you can easily have draws with 29 or more outs in Omaha.

In HORSE it is fixed limit omaha hi/lo. Most played single variant is PLO. Totally different game.

Omaha Explained

What you do is get four cards.

Doesn't matter much what they are because nobody really looks at them anyway.

Next, they put three cards on the board. It doesn't matter what they are because nobody really pays any attention to the flop either.

Then one more card for the turn and another one for the river.
Same betting scenario as before.

Doesn't really matter much what they are, except, for a few of the players that may have "cheated" and looked at their hole cards.
These players may now fold if they have absolutely no outs. (Mostly bad sports.)

Now, at the showdown, everybody turns over their cards and helps the dealer figure out who has the best hand.
You MUST play two cards out of your hand so this usually takes a while and the winning hand is usually found out after a little bit of searching by all of the players and a partially confused dealer.

The dealer now pushes the pot to the wrong player and everybody yells at him and he smiles glibly and says, "Oh yeah, sorry" and then sends it in the right direction.

Then, after all of that excitement dies down, everybody lets out a collective sigh of relief and gets ready to wind up and do it all over again. ……Fun game.

PLO is too damn sick... I love it and I hate it at the same time. Just a little something: Never ever ever ever ever slow play in PLO unless you flop a Royal Fush... Big Smile

PL Omaha has even more action tham hold'em. You'll probably see your bankroll yo-yo a lot because the 4 hole cards make more outs . A general rule of thumb is that omaha is about straights and flushes. Sets or lower are often losers.
